Home Remedies To Get Pregnant With Tubes Tied

Tubal ligation is a procedure that one in four married couples will choose as a form of birth control. Otherwise known as having your tubes tied, the procedure involves cutting and tying off the fallopian tubes to prevent eggs from entering the uterus. This is considered a permanent form of birth control. However, surgery can reverse the procedure, although the reversal process does not guarantee the possibility of getting pregnant.

How Does A Tubal Ligation Work

Tubal ligations work by causing permanent blockage of the fallopian tube. This prevents sperm from finding an egg and prevents the egg from ever finding the inside of the uterus.

Clips and rings cause pressure on the tube and the tube will heal closed after they are applied. Tying and cutting the tube causes the same process to occur but just removes a little more of the tube than do the clips and rings. Tubal coagulation uses electricity to generate heat to damage the portion of the tube to which the heat is applied and the tube will heal closed after the tubal sterilization procedure.

All of these methods are intended to result in permanent tubal blockage and prevent pregnancy. They key word is intended because sometimes the intent is not realized.

What Are The Types Of Sterilization

There are a few different types of tubal sterilization procedures:

    • Tubal ligation is a surgical procedure that permanently closes, cuts, or removes pieces of your fallopian tubes.

    • Bilateral salpingectomy is a surgical procedure that removes your fallopian tubes entirely.

    • Essure sterilization is a tiny coil that a doctor puts in your fallopian tubes to block them it used to be a common form of sterilization, but Essure is no longer available in the U.S.

‘miracle Baby’: Woman Gets Pregnant After Having Fallopian Tubes Removed

Elizabeth Kough had been pregnant before. She knew how it felt. She just couldn’t believe it had happened this time.

Kough was at her house in Kearney last year when she got the positive test result on a home pregnancy kit. It was shocking because three years earlier, she had had both of her fallopian tubes removeda procedure medical professionals assured her would make it all but impossible for her to conceive.

“So I freaked out,” said Kough, 39.

She woke her boyfriend and had him drive her straight to the hospital.

Another test there confirmed she was pregnant, so she insisted on an ultrasound, fearing that an embryo was lodged somewhere in her abdominal cavity.

But the scan showed the tiny fetus nestled safely in Kough’s uterus. She gave birth at North Kansas City Hospital in March to a healthy 7-pound, 6-ounce baby boy named Benjaminpart of a journey she never expected but says she definitely wouldn’t change.

“Of course at first I was shocked and I was like, ‘this isn’t in my plan,’ ” Kough said. “I’m a planner. But now, you know, sometimes the best laid plans, you need to just do away with those. He is a beautiful baby. I am exceptionally lucky to have him in my life.”

Based on the scientific literature, “lucky” barely begins to describe it.

The first case documented in English-language medical journals was published in 2005, after a 38-year-old woman who had her tubes removed showed up pregnant at an emergency room in the United Kingdom.

Chances Of Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation Reversal

A board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist clears up the question of whether you can conceive after having your tubes tied.

Having your “tubes tied” , is one of the most effective methods of birth control. A BTL is a surgical procedure that cuts and separates a portion of each fallopian tube. It can either be done at the time of Cesarean section, shortly after a vaginal delivery, or laparoscopically at a time remote from childbirth.

In terms of preventing pregnancy, getting your tubes tied is 99.9% effective. But it is not 100% effective. In fact, nothing is…. Except abstinence.

In a small percentage of cases, despite the tubes being severed, they can grow together again during the process of healing and a connection between the two cut ends of the fallopian tube can reform. This can allow an egg and sperm to meet and a pregnancy to develop.

If a pregnancy does occur after a tubal ligation, it is more likely to be an ectopic pregnancy . If you have had your tubes tied and you are getting a positive urine pregnancy test at home, it is very important that you see your doctor to first confirm that you are in fact pregnant, and second, to make sure you don’t have an ectopic pregnancy.

What If I Change My Mind

It is possible to reverse a tubal ligation but it is a major surgery that doesnt always work, is rarely covered by insurance, and is not recommended.

Some women choose to have their tubes tied and later regret the decision. Since this procedure is a permanent form of birth control, it is not recommended if you are looking for something short-term. It is important to make sure this is something you really want and you know you do not want any future children. You should not get your tubes tied if you are unsure about the decision or think you might want to have more children in the future.

Sometimes, with major surgery it is possible to restore a womans ability to get pregnant, but it is still not guaranteed. If a woman does end up regretting her tubal ligation and decides she wants to have more children, an alternative to a reversal of tubal ligation is in vitro fertilization .

What Happens After A Tubal Ligation

After your surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room to be watched while you recover from the anesthesia. Your IV will be removed once you can drink fluids. You will probably be able to go home in a few hours.

Here is what you can probably expect at home:

    • You will be able to gradually resume your normal diet.
    • Some discomfort is normal. Ask your surgeon what medicines to take for pain.
    • You may have shoulder pain for a few days. This is from the gas that was pumped into your belly. Lying down for a while often relieves this pain.
    • Keep your incision areas dry for a few days. Follow your surgeons instructions on bathing and dressing care. You may need to go back to have your stitches removed. Keep all your follow-up appointments.
    • Gradually resume normal activities in a few days.
    • Avoid heavy lifting for a few weeks. Ask your surgeon when you can return to specific activities.
    • You may be able to return to sexual activity in about 1 week.

Tell your surgeon about any of the following:

    • Increasing pain or pain that is not relieved by medicine
    • Any drainage, bleeding, redness, or swelling
    • Fever

Before you agree to the test or the procedure make sure you know:

Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Ivf

If the fallopian tubes were cauterized during ligation, if the patient is older, if theres a male factor, then the likelihood of pregnancy with a tubal reversal is lower and chances for success with IVF are much higher. The other reason for recommending IVF would be if the patient desires to preserve their fertility for other children in the future and they want to maintain their contraception, then you would not want to reverse the fallopian tubes.

    How Well Does It Work

Tubal ligation is an extremely reliable way to prevent pregnancy. Fewer than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant within a year of surgery. But different things play a role in your chances of getting pregnant later.

One is the surgical method your doctor uses. Your tubes may be:

    • Cut and tied with special thread
    • Closed with bands or clips
    • Cauterized, which means theyâre sealed shut with an electric current
    • Blocked with scar tissue that forms when your doctor inserts small implants

While all work well to prevent pregnancy, not all are equally effective. Methods that cause the most damage to the tubes are most likely to be permanent.

Age also plays a role in the chance that you could get pregnant after the procedure. The younger you are when you have it, the more likely it is to fail at some point.
