No drug is safe. They all have side effects. With any of the anticoagulants you have the risk of bleeding. Ask yourself, how safe was that embolism?

This is a very dangerous drug… you risk bleeding,hemorrhage,esophagus and gt problems dizziness and lots more possibly life threatening events. It should never have been approved until there was an antidote available.

On Sept 2nd, 2014 I went into a bad AFIB. I was running 140 BPM. The next day after being on Cardizem for a day and not converting back to sinus rhythm, I had a single cardioversion shock. It worked. I was prescribed generic Lopressor and the 20 mg. Xarelto. So far eveything OK after 30 days. Xarelto is now the goto drug to prevent strokes and clots. It is safe as long as you don’t take any NSAIDs like aspirin or Aleve. I was told I can use Tylenol for pain because its not a blood thinner. Obviously no heavy drinking with Tylenol because it causes liver failure. With my insurance I pay $45 a month for 30 Xarelto. If you get nose bleeds, bloody urine or tar like stool see Doc immediately. YOU CANNOT JUST STOP TAKING Xarelto. Must see Doc or major risk for stroke. All alternative meds cost about the same. Taking Warfarin is cheaper but MUCH more involved and risky.

warfarin is no more risky, just has to be monitored and you have to be careful you don’t eat allot of vit K. Unlike the others, warfarin has an antidote if you start to bleed.

Your provider also checks your babys health in the womb using tests like:
- Ultrasound to check your babys growth and development. She may use a special kind of ultrasound called Doppler to check your babys blood flow in the umbilical artery, a blood vessel in the umbilical cord. The umbilical cord connects your baby to the placenta. It carries food and oxygen from the placenta to the baby.
- Fetal heart rate monitoring . This test checks your babys heart rate in the womb and sees how the heart rate changes when your baby moves. Your provider uses this test to make sure your babys getting enough oxygen.
Dont take combined hormonal methods of birth control during the first 21-42 days after delivery. The risk of DVT is highest in the first 21 days.
Specific Rivaroxaban Precautions And Warnings
- As with all “blood thinners,” most of the serious rivaroxaban side effects are related to bleeding, especially internal bleeding, which can be fatal. Let your healthcare provider know if you develop any signs of bleeding, such as:
- Easy bruising
- Cuts or scrapes that are slow to stop bleeding
- Black, tarry stools bright red blood in the stool or vomiting of blood
- Signs of a bleeding in the brain, such as vision or speech changes, weakness or numbness in an arm or leg, or a severe headache.
- There have been reports of spinal or epidural hematoma in people who had spinal or epidural anesthesia or spinal punctures while taking anticoagulants, including rivaroxaban. This is a serious problem that can sometimes cause long-term or permanent paralysis. Each case must be evaluated on an individual basis, but you may not be a candidate for these types of anesthesia or procedures if you are taking rivaroxaban. If you have an epidural catheter that needs to be removed, this must be timed carefully with when you take your dose of rivaroxaban.
- Before taking rivaroxaban, make sure your healthcare provider knows if you have any of the following medical conditions:
- Current or recent ulcers of the digestive tract
- Any obvious bleeding
- Disorders that increase the risk for bleeding
- Bleeding in the brain
- Recent brain, spinal, or eye surgery.
Extreme caution must be taken in these situations.
- Rivaroxaban may react with a number of other medications .

Will I Need To Use This Drug Long Term
You might, but it depends on why youre taking Xarelto. The length of time Xarelto treatment is used is based on why youre taking the drug. Typical treatment lengths are as follows:
- If youre taking Xarelto after having a knee replacement, youll take the drug for 12 days after your surgery.
- If youre taking Xarelto after having a hip replacement, youll take the drug for 35 days after your surgery.
- If youre taking Xarelto because you were admitted to a hospital for an acute illness, youll take the drug for 31 to 39 days.
- If youre taking Xarelto to treat a deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism , youll take the drug for 6 to 12 months.
However, when its prescribed to prevent blood clots or their complications, Xarelto is meant to be used as a long-term treatment. If you and your doctor determine that Xarelto is safe and effective for you, youll likely take it long term for these purposes.
If you have coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease , youll take Xarelto with aspirin.
With CAD, you have narrowed arteries in your heart. With PAD, you have narrowed arteries in your legs. Both of these conditions increase your risk of having blood clots that can cause a heart attack or stroke.
Using a combination of Xarelto and aspirin is more effective for preventing heart attack and stroke in people with CAD or PAD than using aspirin alone.
The recommended dosage of aspirin for this use is 75 mg to 100 mg taken once a day.
