They will then take out the device with forceps . If youre getting a new implant to replace the old one at the end of its three-year period, the insertion will take place right after removal.

What Is The Nexplanon Implant

Nexplanon is a small, thin, flexible, and matchstick-sized plastic implant device that is placed underneath the skin of your inner upper arm. If you are right-handed, doctors place it in the left arm and vice versa. It is considered a long-acting birth control option for women, to prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years and must be removed after 3 years.

The implant continuously releases a hormone, progestin , that stops an egg from being released from your ovary, prevents sperms from reaching the egg, and changes the linings of your womb. It also contains a small amount of barium sulfate for its better visibility under X-ray.

What Are The Risks Of Continuing

Once the first trimester has passed, elective dental procedures like Dental Implants have the Green Light and are entirely at a patients discretion.

Side Effects Of Implanon Nxt

What really happens when you get the implant?

Various undesirable effects that have been associated with the hormones used for birth control are similar to those that may occur during pregnancy. The reason for this is the similarity between these hormones and the natural hormones produced in extra large amounts during pregnancy. These effects can also occur during the use of Implanon NXT but are not necessarily caused by it.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you do not feel well while using it.

Like all medicines, Implanon NXT can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are not.

Some Things Will Stay The Same

Pregnancy will not affect the actual integrity of the implants themselves. Depending on weight gain, and the rate at which it is gained, this can have a residual effect on the augmentation.

For a woman that plans on nursing, which is still possible depending on the type of implant, the breasts will become much larger than they did during pregnancy. But according to a recent study, it has been confirmed that breastfeeding for women with breast augmentation did not put themselves at a higher risk for skin sagging.

Pregnancy fuels a womans body with a surge of hormones, which drastically decrease once a woman is nursing, thus often times leading to breast ptosis .

First up, a reminder of what birth control is and how it works so you can better understand its effects on pregnancy.

Birth control is any method you use to prevent pregnancy. There are plenty of options out there: barrier birth control , surgical methods , and hormonal birth control are some of your options.

The most common form of hormonal birth control is the pill. Birth control pills are more than 99 percent effective when used correctly. Sounds almost foolproof, right? Not quite. Were human and sometimes we skip doses. That means the pill is only 91 percent effective in reality .

The implanted tube slowly releases low levels of the hormone to prevent . If a girl doesn’t ovulate, she can’t get pregnant because there is no egg to be fertilized.

The released progestin also thickens the mucus around the cervix. This makes it hard for sperm to enter the uterus and reach any eggs that may have been released. The progestin also thins the lining of the uterus so an egg will have a hard time attaching to the wall of the uterus.

Why Should The Dental Implant Procedure Wait Until After Pregnancy

The concern with getting a dental implant while pregnant is the anesthesia. Local anesthesia that is used to numb the mouth in preparation for a cavity filling or root canal is safe during pregnancy. But IV or oral sedation is not necessarily safe. While there has been no research to show that there are any harmful effects, ultimately it is better to be safe and avoid the procedure if it is not urgent.

Another factor is that X-Ray images are usually needed to prepare for an implant procedure. X-Rays are used to evaluate bone density to ensure that there is sufficient jaw bone to support an implant. While it may be safe to have X-Ray images taken during pregnancy with the appropriate protective covering, it is usually best to avoid it if not absolutely necessary.

How Well Does Implantable Contraception Work

Implantable contraception is a very effective method of birth control. Over the course of 1 year, fewer than 1 out of 100 typical couples using the implant will have an accidental pregnancy. The chances of getting pregnant increase if a girl waits longer than 3 years to replace the tube. So it’s important to keep a record of when a tube was inserted, and:

  • Get a new contraceptive implant on schedule. or
  • Have the old tube removed and switch to another birth control method.

In general, how well each birth control method works depends on a lot of things. These include whether a girl has any health conditions or is taking medicines or herbal supplements that might affect its use. For example, some antibiotics or herbs like St. John’s wort can affect how well implantable contraception works.

    Hormonal Contraceptives And Cancer

Breast cancer has been found slightly more often in women using oral combined pills, but it is not known whether this is caused by the treatment. For example, it may be that tumours are found more in women on combined pills, because they are examined by the doctor more often. This slight increase in the numbers of breast cancer diagnoses gradually disappears during the course of the 10 years after stopping use of the Pill.

It is important to regularly check your breasts and you should contact your doctor if you feel any lump in your breasts.

You should also tell your doctor if a close relative has or ever had breast cancer.

In rare cases, benign and even more rarely malignant liver tumours have been reported in women using the Pill.

If you experience severe abdominal pain, you should contact your doctor immediately.

This information has been obtained in studies with women who daily take an oral combined contraceptive Pill. It is not known whether these observations are also applicable to women who use a different hormonal contraceptive, such as implants containing only a progestagen.
