Triggering Ovulation And Egg Retrieval For The Egg Donor
When the ultrasound imaging shows that the donor’s eggs have sufficiently developed, the donor will be instructed to trigger ovulation with an injection of hCG. Two days later, her eggs are retrieved in a short in-office procedure, called egg retrieval. While the donor is asleep , one of our physicians will use an aspiration needle, guided by ultrasound, to transvaginally retrieve the eggs. The donor will be required to take the rest of the day off to recover.
Long-distance donors who are from another part of the United States will be required to travel to our center in New York City for 3 nights and 2 days for egg retrieval.

Signing On The Dotted Line: Legal Considerations
An essential part of egg donation is signing legal agreements. In many cases, the clinic or agency will have a lawyer representing their side, but they may or may not mention that you have the option of hiring your own lawyer.
Its highly recommended that you hire your own lawyer to protect your interests, and have that lawyer carefully review the contract before you sign. This is something youll likely need to pay for yourself, but its worth the expense.
Questions and issues that should be addressed in your contract include :

Requirements To Donate Eggs
Being female isnt the only requirement to sell your eggs. The requirements for egg donors actually comprise quite a long list:
- Between the ages of 21 and 31
- Have both of your ovaries
- Physically healthy with no family history of inheritable genetic disorders. This means your BMI must be between 19 and 29, plus have no existing serious illness.
- Psychologically healthy that is, no history of mental disorders or psychological issues plus you shouldnt be taking psychoactive drugs
- Non-smoker and no history of substance abuse
- Have regular and monthly menstrual periods and not taking contraceptive implants or Depo-Provera injections
- Willing to take hormone injections on a rigid schedule
- Able to keep appointments
Sometimes, your travel history would also be checked to see if you kept away from countries affected by certain diseases, such as Zika. Another medical history likely to be considered is sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis, chlamydia, and so on.
Many clinics do not list down a college education as a requirement, but reports have shown that fertility clinics do prefer candidates with a degree.
The screening process, which involves physical exams, interviews, background checks, and psychological tests, takes about 6 to 8 weeks depending on the clinic.

How Do I Become An Egg Donor
Women interested in becoming an egg donor are asked to complete a family medical history form and submit a recent photograph for our files. Once your completed questionnaire is received, one of the physicians in the IVF program will review it. If approved, we will contact you to set up a consultation with one of the physicians to complete your screening.
You will come to the Fertility Centers offices at Green Spring Station to meet with our team. The medication schedule and egg collection process will be explained to you, and any questions you may have will be answered. A physical exam, cervical cultures and blood testing will be performed at that time. This process usually takes about one hour to complete.
After the results of the cultures and blood tests come back, an appointment will be made for the computerized psychological testing . Once the results of the preliminary studies are in, you will be scheduled for a session with the team psychologist for a psychological evaluation and to discuss the psychological aspects of being an egg donor. This session should last approximately one hour.
Who Can Donate Their Eggs
Usually women need to be between the ages of 18 and 35 to donate their eggs to someone’s treatment. Clinics may only allow eggs from an older woman to be used in exceptional circumstances, such as if youre donating to a family member.
Before you donate, youll need to have certain health tests to ensure you don’t pass on any serious diseases or medical conditions to the baby or mother. You should tell your clinic about any inheritable diseases in your family.
Some clinics also set additional eligibility criteria, including minimum and maximum Body Mass Indexes . Talk to your preferred clinic or clinics about their process.
Expanded carrier screening or testing involves identifying simultaneously the presence or the absence of many gene variants which might be associated with different conditions of varying severity and predictability. Although we provide guidance to UK fertility clinics about donor screening in the HFEAs Code of Practice, there is currently no national guidance in the UK specific to ECS. The HFEA does not require UK fertility clinics to carry out ECS and gamete donors are not required to have had this screening. You should discuss any questions that you may have about ECS with your fertility clinic.

What Is The Best Age To Freeze Your Eggs

Understanding The Egg Donation Process
Before being approved as a donor, applicants must complete a questionnaire, have an initial consult, complete psychological counseling, and undergo a medical screening. If you are approved after completing these steps, your profile will be made available to potential recipients in the donor database.
Once matched and the donation process is initiated, you may need to begin taking birth control pills to regulate ovulation. When your retrieval cycle begins, you will give yourself fertility shots daily for 10 to 12 days. When your physician determines that your egg follicles are mature, you will give yourself a trigger shot. Your egg retrieval procedure will be scheduled to occur 36 hours after this trigger shot.
Your eggs will be retrieved during an outpatient procedure at one of our clinics. You will be sedated to minimize discomfort, and there will be no incision. The retrieval takes about 30 minutes, followed by a one-hour recovery time. Grogginess, uterine cramping and light vaginal spotting are normal. You will be given post-procedure pain medications to take as needed, and you will need someone to drive you home.

Will The Fertility Medications Affect My Hormones In The Future
Studies have shown that using fertility medications does not have long-term consequences for fertility. Basically, they boost your hormones while youre taking them, but they leave your body quickly once you stop. It can take a couple of months for your period to go back to its regular schedule, but thats not a cause for concern.
What Is The Egg Collection Process
The eggs develop inside fluid-filled cysts called follicles. The mature eggs will be removed from your ovaries by using ultrasound to guide a needle through the vaginal wall directly into these cysts. The fluid from the cysts is aspirated through the needle to collect the eggs using suction. The needle is only slightly larger in diameter than the needle used to draw blood from your arm.
We try to aspirate all the follicles in both ovaries and collect an egg from each follicle. The actual egg collection process takes approximately 3045 minutes and is performed in the operating room.
