Can You Get Pregnant Right After Nexplanon Removal

Myth: Getting An Implant Is Painful And Could Cause Infection

Trying To Get Pregnant After Nexplanon Removal

Some women who seek family planning believe that the insertion of implants requires surgery or that insertion is painful and causes infection. They may also have misconceptions about the removal of implants.

Fact: No stitches, no noticeable scar, and it can be removed at any time

Health professionals with specific training perform a minor surgical procedure to insert implants. The provider gives the patient an injection of local anesthetic under the skin of her arm to prevent pain while the implants are inserted. This injection may sting. The woman remains fully awake during the procedure. Insertion takes an average of 4 to 5 minutes for Norplant, 2.5 minutes for Jadelle, and 1.5 minutes for Implanon. Insertion can take more or less time, depending on the skill of the provider.

The incision is small and stitches are not required. In most cases, insertion does not leave a noticeable scar. Once inserted, the outline of the implants underneath the skin can be felt and sometimes seen. The woman may have bruising and feel pain or soreness for a few days afterward.

Infection at the insertion site can occur, but is uncommon. When infection occurs, it is usually within the first two months after insertion. In rare cases, implants may start to come out of the skin. When this occurs, it is usually due to improper insertion or infection.

What Happens If I Get Pregnant On The Implant

In the very rare chance you become pregnant whilst using the contraceptive implant then you should contact your doctor. If you become pregnant whilst on Nexplanon, then you have a slightly higher risk of an ectopic pregnancy . If you experience unusual vaginal bleeding or lower stomach pain then you must call your doctor immediately. The Nexplanon implant should be removed if pregnancy occurs, but there is no evidence to suggest falling pregnant whilst using the implant poses any harm to the developing pregnancy.

Myth: Infertility And Ectopic Pregnancy

Best Birth Control: Birth Control Options

Some women who seek family planning believe that using implants will cause infertility, delay the return of fertility after the implants are removed, or cause ectopic pregnancies .

Fact: Implant doesn’t affect your fertility, and reduces the risk of ectopic pregnancy

Implants stop working once they are removed and their hormones do not remain in the womans body. Implant use does not affect a womans ability to become pregnant, although fertility decreases with a womans age. One major study found that women who have had their implants removed can become pregnant as quickly as women who have stopped using nonhormonal methods.

Implants substantially reduce the risk of ectopic pregnancy. In the United States, the rate of ectopic pregnancy among women who are not using a contraceptive method is 650 ectopic pregnancies per 100,000 women per year. The rate of ectopic pregnancy among women using implants is 6 ectopic pregnancies per 100,000 women per year.

Even in the very rare cases when implants fail and pregnancy occurs, the great majority of these pregnancies are not ectopic. Only 10 to 17 of every 100 pregnancies due to the failure of implants are ectopic.

How Long Does It Take To Get Pregnant After Birth Control

While it varies from person to person, for the most part, it’s a bit of a myth that it takes a long time to get pregnant after using birth control, says Jill Purdie, MD, OB/GYN and medical director at Northside Women’s Specialists. Most people will get pregnant within a normal timeframe after stopping “the pill,” she assuresor other forms of birth control.

“With birth control pills, rings, patches and implants, once the patient discontinues use of these items, they may become fertile as quickly as two weeks after stopping,” says Dr. Purdie. “With IUDs, the return to fertility may be even quicker.” This means that, despite popular believes, the chances of getting pregnant the first month off of birth control are very real. The one exception to this is the birth control shot, known as Depo-Provera, which can affect your fertility for a longer period of time, even after you’ve stopped taking it. “Each shot lasts for three months however, the return to fertility may be an additional 3 to 6 months longer,” Dr. Purdie explains.

It’s important to keep in mind that whenever we talk about fertility returning and getting pregnant after birth control, there are a lot of elements at workit has to do with how intercourse is timed, you and your partner’s reproductive health, as well as some elements of luck. In other words, fertility isn’t just affected by whether or not you recently were on birth control.

When Does The Contraceptive Implant Start Working After Giving Birth

After giving birth you are able to have the implant fitted any time and it is fine to use if you are breastfeeding. If fitted up to 21 days after giving birth you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. If the implant is fitted after 21 days, you will need to ensure that you use another method of contraception such as condoms for 7 days after the implant is fitted.

How Can You Tell If You’re Ovulating

After you stop taking birth control, you’ll probably be wondering at what point your fertility has started to return. One way to figure this out is by tracking your signs of ovulation. Ovulation typically occurs around 2 weeks after your period, though your periods might not be regular right after you stop birth control.

  • Increased cervical mucus, which may look clear and slippery
  • Pelvic and abdominal pain
  • Spotting or light bleeding
  • Changes in mood

If you are looking for more definitive proof that you are ovulating, you may want to track your basal body temperature, says Dr. Purdie. “This is a temperature taken first thing in the morning before you get up,” she says. “There will be a rise in basal body temperature around the time of ovulation.” Another option is to get an ovulation predictor kit, which will usually turn positive the day before you ovulate, Dr. Purdie explains.

Combination Birth Control Methods

Conceiving n Fertility Getting Pregnant after Nexplanon Implant Birth Control Removal x Conception

Combination birth control methods include combination birth control pills, NuvaRing, and the patch. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there about these methods.

You may have heard it takes at least three months for ovulation to start up again after you stop the pill. This is not usually true. For most people, ovulation will start within weeks. For some, though, it can take one to three months.

Think about it like this: The pill works because it stops ovulation. If you miss a couple of pills, you might ovulate and you might get pregnant. Some healthcare providers even say you are most fertile just after you stop taking the pill.

So where does the three-month myth come from? Your healthcare provider may tell you to use a condom until you have had three periods. This is just because waiting will help you keep track of your cycle. That way, if you get pregnant, it will be easier to guess when the pregnancy happened.

There is no medical reason to wait after you stop birth control before trying to become pregnant. Just be prepared that your fertility may return within the first month.

NuvaRing and the Patch work the same way as the pill, so the same goes for these methods. Fertility should return quickly. Most research shows that 80% of people who stop using these methods and want to get pregnant will get pregnant within the first year. This number is the same as that of the general population.

What Happens If I Miss A Dose

Nexplanon is an implant that lasts for 3 years. It is not intended for contraceptive use after 3 years and should be replaced with a new one if you want to continue having contraceptive cover.

You should keep a record of when you had Nexplanon inserted and just before the end of the third year make an appointment for removal of the implant. You may have your Nexplanon replaced with a new one at the same appointment if you want to continue with contraception.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Implant

Advantages:

Nexplanon needs to be replaced 3-4 years

Your fertility should return within a month after the procedure. It may take a few months for your cycle to return to normal following the removal of a Nexplanon. Its important to remember that just because your fertility has returned doesnt mean you can get pregnant immediately. For someone who has spent years avoiding pregnancy, this may be a strange experience. You might believe that if you hadnt used birth control, you would have conceived right away, but this isnt entirely true.

After the removal of Nexplanon, the majority of women become pregnant within six months. However, it can take longer in some situations. Nexplanon is only effective for 3 years, after which it must be removed by a nurse or doctor. If you want to get pregnant or stop using your implant, you can have it removed at any time before then. If youve had the implant for three years and are still unable to conceive, its time to replace it . When the old implant is removed, you will get a new one.

After your implant has been removed, you should feel absolutely fine. For a few days, the area where the implant was can feel tender or swollen. For a week or two, it can appear bruised. For a few days after removal, your doctor or nurse will instruct you on how to wash and care for your skin.

Benefits Of Using Nexplanon As Birth Control

Many women decide on Nexplanon as a form of birth control since this particular contraceptive also offers several health and lifestyle benefits, such as:

  • The implant is rather small and discreet
  • Theres no need to take doses orally or do any maintenance
  • Its a safe alternative for women who cant use estrogen-based birth control
  • When inserted between the first and fifth day of the period, Nexplanon starts working immediately
  • Its a safe birth control option for breastfeeding mothers
  • Considering its steady delivery of hormones, there are fewer hormonal ups and downs compared to other hormonal contraceptives
  • Nexplanon is a good option for women who dont want kids currently but also want flexibility for future family planning

Its also important to mention that after Nexplanon removal, women can expect to be fertile again within two weeks. This is considerably faster compared to other hormonal birth control options.

Of course, before you decide on Nexplanon or any other form of birth control for that matter, its essential to talk to your doctor about it. Proper gynecological care is crucial for providing you with the best service and contraception for your particular needs and health condition.

When Does It Start Working

Its immediately effective if inserted during the first 5 days of your menstrual cycle, which starts with the first day of bleeding. The implant is effective after 7 days if it is inserted at any other time in the menstrual cycle. Other contraceptive measures such as condoms should be used for these 7 days. If changing from the Pill or another method of contraception discuss the best time for insertion with your doctor.

Whats Your Goal For Using A Contraceptive

There is no single contraceptive method that’s right for everyone. While preventing pregnancy is the most common reason to use birth control, doctors may prescribe them for regulating periods, helping with menstrual or endometriosis pain, or controlling acne.

Its important to think about these things because not every contraceptive can do it all. Here are a few questions to ask yourself when choosing a birth control method:

  • Do you have any health conditions?
  • Do you want your contraceptive to cause you to bleed less or at all?
  • Do you also need protection against sexually transmitted infections?
  • If you know you want to become pregnant in the future, how important is it to be able to get pregnant right away?
  • Is this method affordable or covered by my health insurance?
  • Will you be able to use it correctly every time?

Knowing your options for birth control is important, but so is being honest about your goals and priorities. Also, remember that your choice of birth control may change over your lifetime due to evolving health and reproductive goals.

Why Does It Take This Long After Nexplanon Removal To Get Pregnant

This is a birth control implant that only contains progestin. Nexplanon is a three-year progestin delivery system. This birth control implant can be removed at any point during the three years. After getting Nexplanon removed, you can expect a rapid return to your fertility. Usually within one month. Furthermore, the length of time you used Nexplanon has no bearing on how easily your fertility returns. This is why it takes a long to get pregnant after the removal of Nexplanon.

The Nexplanon implant removal technique necessitates caution and attention. The post-removal treatment is also crucial. Once the implant has been removed, regardless of how, it is critical to pay attention to the incision area and read any indications that the body can offer following the operation.

There is no longer any defense against pregnancy once the implant has been removed. If a woman does not wish to become pregnant, she is encouraged to use other birth control measures such as contraceptive pills or condoms. For the first seven days after removal, you can use a backup form. Its radiopaque, which means it can be seen on X-rays, making it easier to find the implant. This X-ray capability is allowed by the presence of barium sulfate in a small amount in the implant.

What Side Effects Can You Expect After The Removal Of Nexplanon

The manufacturer of Nexplanon, the earlier version of which was called Implanon, reports that the following side effects are possible upon removal of the device:

  • Temporary pain, bruising, swelling, or irritation at the site where it was located.
  • The formation of scar tissue, including keloid scars, at the insertion site. It is also possible that scarring already occurred when the Nexplanon implant was first inserted, making it harder to remove the device.
  • Nerve damage at the insertion site.
  • The device may break into pieces while it is removed, or it may come out spontaneously.
  • In some cases, the Nexplanon implant may require surgical removal.

When It Starts To Work

My nexplanon is gone, I have spotting and pregnancy signs, but a negative test. Why?

You can have the implant put in at any time during your menstrual cycle, as long as youre not pregnant.

If the implant is fitted during the first 5 days of your menstrual cycle, youll be immediately protected against becoming pregnant.

If its fitted on any other day of your menstrual cycle, youll need to use additional contraception for 7 days.

Hi everyone! I need help. I had my Nexplanon implant removed 9/11/17. It was due on 10/2017 since i had it for the full 3yrs. I never had my period throughout it. Now, I am just wondering how quickly i can get pregnant or how easily. I want a baby now but just want to know what to be prepared for. I know everyone is different but if you relate, let me know your story! I would love to get a better idea on this topic.

Thank you!

Joanieblueyes

I just got mine out July 2019 after marrying my husband. I know prior to nexplanon I was extremely fertile but still now 4 months later after removal still only one line on my pregnancy tests. Not sure how long it can take but I am starting to worry nexplanon may have damaged something making it harder to conceive.

+0Moreo

My first baby when i had the nexplanon removed only took about a month. I did have the first one in for the whole 3 years to the date. I am now trying for a second baby but it has now been 7 weeks i had my first period 2 weeks ago but still nothing i only had this one in for about a year. It hits everyone differently and i guess each time is diffrent to.

Fertility has been known to be restored in as little as a week and as long as 18 months. It’s just one of those things where there is no definite rule.
