Early Intercourse: Can You Get Pregnant On Your Period
The chances of getting pregnant are low with intercourse during your period, but not impossibleremember, if there is intercourse, pregnancy is always possible.
How can you get pregnant on your period? Well, because sperm can survive beyond that ideal 48-hour window, if you ovulate on the early side, it could still be around to catch the egg. Its a scenario where the stars really have to align just right, so to speak.
Ex/ 26-day cycle, 6 days active bleeding, early ovulation at day 10. Intercourse on CD 5 during your period, sperm can still be viable at 5+ days when the egg drops.
This, obviously, also applies to the question, can you get pregnant right after your period as well, more so actually, because you are closer to mid-cycle.
What Is Menstrual Period
Menstrual period or menstruation is a womans monthly bleeding. This happens when you ovulate, and the egg is not fertilized. Therefore, your body sheds the endometrium causing bleeding. It flows from the uterus through a small cervical opening, and it passes out through the vagina. The bleeding lasts for three to five days. Menstrual period, also known as menses are a part of womans normal sexual health during reproductive age.

Are You Pregnant But Youre Not Sure Exactly When You Conceived
You have several options for determining your conception date:
- An ultrasound is the most accurate way to see how far along your pregnancy is. Ultrasounds provide a detailed look at your babys development and will give you a good estimate of how far along your pregnancy is.
- An online pregnancy calculator can give an estimate of when you conceived based on when your last period was. This method is not as accurate as a confirmation ultrasound.
We offer free ultrasounds at our pregnancy center. Our medical professionals are trained in limited obstetrical ultrasound and provide medical services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician.
Using A Period Calculator
The first thing that the period calculator will ask you is the date of your last period. With so many apps available now, this should be information that is readily available.
And just remember, when calculating your period, you use the first day of your last period. This was the beginning of your cycle.
If you dont know the exact first day, calculate back from the last day however long it lasted, and start tracking now. Especially if you are trying to get pregnant.
Some will use a menstruation calculator to figure out when to expect their periods and when to expect PMS. PMS is due to the change in hormones that cause periods and pregnancy.
When you are pregnant or during your period, these emotional and physical symptoms subside . Some women can then plan to change their diet a few days before they expect PMS and help to alleviate some of the symptoms.
The next piece of information that you will be asked for is the average length of time between your periods. This is the length of the menstrual cycle. Of course, the human body does vary wildly here, and whilst some months there could be 30 days between your period, others it could be as low as 25.
However, you are only after an average here. Being as accurate as possible is important as this will affect the results that you are given which can have a profound effect on when the calculator tells you is the ideal time to try for a child.

How To Calculate A Menstrual Cycle And Menstrual Period
The menstrual cycle begins on the first day of your period. In other words, day one of the cycle is the day one of your period, cycle day two is the second day of your period and so on. In general, bleeding is there for three to five days and differs from one woman to another.
An important point to note is that the cycle begins from the day of your regular bleeding but not spotting. For instance, you started spotting on March 3, but the actual bleeding began a day later. So the first day of your menstrual cycle is March 4. Let’s say you bleed for five days, so, the duration of your menstrual period is five days for the month of March.
Now, if your next period started on April 2, then your menstrual cycle length is the number of days from March 4 to April 1 , which is 29 days. You should not count the first day of your next period because that day will fall under the next menstrual cycle.
In general, menstrual period is the number of days you bleed regularly and menstrual cycle is the number of days from first day of your last period to a day before your next period starts. The average length of the menstrual cycle is 28 days but varies from person to person.
How Long Is My Fertility Window
The fertility window has a length of 8 days. The fertility window begins when sperm can theoretically survive within your body long enough to fertilise an egg. The fertility window ends with the maximum lifespan of an egg. As an egg can only survive 1 day outside of the ovaries, the window ends 1 day after ovulation.

This ovulation calculator is by no means a substitute for knowing what is going on in your body, but rather it should be used for informational purposes only. An ovulation calculator estimates your potential ovulation days by taking your average cycle length and the date of your last period – so its basically using the calendar method. An ovulation test measures your personal hormone levels to give you an accurate prediction for the day you ovulate and the days leading up to ovulation.
MYTH: Menstrual cycles are always 28 days long and every woman ovulates on day 14.
FACT: The average menstrual cycle is 28 days long, but every woman is unique and nearly 50% of womens cycles vary by 7 days or more. As menstrual cycles vary in length, so does the timing of ovulation, so it can be difficult to know when YOUR fertile days are.

What Is A Due Date Calculator
A due date calculator helps you estimate when your baby will be born. By calculating your due date, youll have an idea of your babys birthday. But keep in mind that your due date is only an estimate. Very few babies are actually born on the day they were due.
Knowing your due date is important for several reasons. It helps you plan and prepare for your babys arrival. It also gives your provider essential information they need to monitor your health and your babys health.
You can calculate your due date at home using a couple of different methods. But these methods arent always accurate. When you visit your provider, they may give you a different due date based on the size of your baby on ultrasound and the date of your last period.
Am I Pregnant How Do You Know If Youre Pregnant
The first thing to consider when calculating your chances of getting pregnant is timing.
-Your last period-The date of intercourseIf you know, the date of ovulation is also quite useful. You can find a full guide to pinpointing ovulation here.
Understanding when you can get pregnant helps a great deal in figuring out your chances of pregnancy. It is possible to become pregnant from intercourse at any time if you happen to be ovulating or ovulate while semen is still viable, but the chances are significantly higher during your fertile period. When is that? For most women, ovulation lands around mid-cycle.
So, if your period is on average 28 days, ovulation is likely around the 14th day, with day 1 being the first day of period bleeding. Note I said most. Not all women ovulate mid-cycle, and ovulation does fluctuate slightly each cycle for some. You can help guess when you are ovulating by paying attention to vaginal discharge. When you are fertile, it will become more plentiful and watery. At ovulation itself, you may see egg-white-like discharge, sort of like clear snot There are also ovulation test strips you can buy if you are ttc, and basal body temping can also be a huge help.
Keep in mind that the egg is most viable in the first 12 hours, and though unlikely, may survive up to 48 hours. Sperm is most viable within 48 hours but can survive in the body for 5 or more days .
Lets consider some scenarios with that then.

Side Note What If You Dont Get Periods
Just because you arent having a menstrual period doesnt necessarily mean you also arent ovulating. Its entirely possible you just have very long cycles. Most women who dont get periods do have occasional bleeding. Lack of menstruation can mean you arent ovulating, or it can mean you just arent doing so regularly. Either way, this is something you should speak with a care provider about, as it is often indicative of an underlying condition. If youre ttc, that can greatly reduce your chances of getting pregnant.

Using The Period Tracker To Predict Ovulation
You can also use this period calculator to find out what is your fertility window – that is, the time when you’re most likely to get pregnant.
As sperm can live up to seven days inside your body, you can safely assume that the fertility window starts seven days before ovulation. It ends only one day after the ovulation, though, as the egg lives for maximum 24 hours.
Ovulation is the time when an egg is released from your ovaries. This is the time when you are most fertile. It usually happens about two weeks before the start of the next period. If you want to have a more precise estimate, you should monitor your body temperature and the changes in cervical mucus.

A note from Cleveland Clinic
A due date calculator helps you plan for your babys arrival. Keep in mind that a due date calculator is only an estimate. Youll need to see your provider to confirm the date. Your due date may change when you have a prenatal ultrasound. Your provider may even change your due date more than once during your pregnancy, but it usually only changes by a few days. Knowing when to expect your new family member allows you to prepare mentally and physically. An accurate due date also helps your provider monitor your health and the health of your baby.

Please remember that your due date is only an estimate. Every pregnancy is unique and your baby will come when it’s ready. Be sure to talk to your health care provider about your due date.
On average only 5% of births take place exactly on the estimated due date. Most are born within a week either side of the estimated due date. A normal pregnancy can last anywhere between 38 and 42 weeks.

Pregnancy Calculator: How Is Your Due Date Calculated
While itâs true that most pregnancies last 40 weeks, there are other factors at play which will determine your due date. Most expectant mothers donât realize that both menstrual and ovulation periods count as the first two weeks of pregnancy. Many wonât be aware of their pregnancy until their first missed period, and by that time they could be up to five weeks in. That means that simply estimating nine months from the day you take a pregnancy test isnât going to calculate your due date, and, even so, factoring in a few weeks here and there for ovulation wonât either.
Unless you can pinpoint exactly what point of your ovulation cycle you were in at the time of fertilization, itâs difficult to know how far along you are and what date youâll meet your baby. Luckily, our due date calculator can help.
Using both the date of your last period and the length of your regular cycle, or exact date of conception, our due date calculator will quickly work out your estimated due date, tailoring it accordingly for longer, shorter, and average cycle lengths.
What Is My Due Date
Your due date, also known as your estimated date of delivery, is the approximate date your labor might begin. Your estimated due date is commonly calculated by adding 280 days to the date of the first day of your last period, using Naegeles rule.1This may vary if you have irregular periods.
It’s worth noting that although predicted due dates are commonly calculated at 280 days, a baby is born on its predicted due date just 5% of the time.2 A 2020 study published in the International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology suggests a number of factors that can influence the length of your pregnancy, including ethnicity, height, variations in the menstrual cycle, the timing of ovulation, parity and maternal weight. It is for this reason that calculations using Naegeles rule can be considered as an estimate and not a definitive date.3

When Am I Most Fertile
The most fertile time in your cycle are the days leading up to ovulation, before the egg is released from the ovary. After ovulation the egg survives for just 24 hours, while sperm retain fertilising capability for two to three days in the fallopian tubes. For this reason, we recommend that couples have sexual intercourse every two days throughout the females Fertile Window. This means that sperm are ready and waiting for the egg when the female ovulates. If you wait until after the female has ovulated before you have sex, you will most likely have missed the opportunity for conception that month.
Next Lets Talk About Pregnancy Symptoms
Im going to come right out and say you shouldnt consider pregnancy symptoms at all, in my opinion. They are irrelevant this early, but then, I do have a quiz on early symptoms of pregnancy here, so why the hypocrisy there? You will not have pregnancy symptoms before you are pregnant. Period. This falls back into timing.
After sperm meets egg, it takes 6 to 12 days for that fertilized egg to find its way to the uterus and implant. It takes another 48 hours on average for pregnancy hormones to become high enough to even start to be detectablethats 8 to 14 days after fertilization, which could be up to 48 hours after ovulation. Until that egg implants, you arent pregnant. There are no pregnancy hormones. Your symptoms arent pregnancy-related. I have a pregnancy symptom quiz, yes, but with big warnings all over it that it applies after a missed period .
You may now be thinking to yourself, puh, this lady dont know Jack or his sister Sallys ovaries, because Ive had pregnancy symptoms before a missed period before. The thing is, one of the major players in all those fun pregnancy side effects is progesterone, and progesterone is actually present in the body before pregnancy. Its production is super-charged by ovulation, and its purpose is to maintain a pregnancy. So, if you dont get pregnant, it drops, and you get a period. If you do, it continues to rise. A high progesterone cycle will mimic the symptoms of pregnancy from nausea to gas.
