Month Pregnant: Symptoms And Fetal Development

Pregnancy FAQs : How to Know Your Most Fertile Time to Get Pregnant

You might have noticed some changes in your body and started to wonder, âCould I be ⦠pregnant!?â Or, you might not have observed any signs of pregnancy other than your period being late. If you have your suspicions, you’ll probably want to take a home pregnancy test. If the result is positive, congratulations! Read on to find out more about early pregnancy symptoms, how your baby is developing when youâre one month pregnant, and what else is in store for you this month.

How Is Pregnancy Due Date Calculated

A complete full-term pregnancy is usually considered as 40 weeks and the estimated date of confinement or estimated due date is calculated from the date of the last menstrual period . 280 days are added to the LMP and the likely due date is arrived at. In a full-term delivery, the baby is usually born around the time of the EDC. Since the exact time of ovulation is unknown, this calculation only gives a rough idea of the delivery date, with just 5% of babies being born exactly on their due date.

When Will You Start Feeling Symptoms Of Pregnancy

Some women experience symptoms of pregnancy very early on, though many women do not. According to one study of 136 women who ended up having babies, 50% had some symptoms roughly eight days after their missed period, 70% had some symptoms roughly two weeks after their missed period, and 90% had some symptoms one month after their missed period.2

Many early pregnancy symptoms are also very similar to PMS, which can be confusing. I go into more detail about the early symptoms of pregnancy below.

A Word About Due Dates And Trimesters

After you announce your pregnancy, the first question you’ll probably be asked is “When are you due?” At your first prenatal visit, your health care provider will help you determine an expected delivery date . Your EDD is 40 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period .

It’s important to remember that your due date is only an estimate most babies are born between 38 and 42 weeks from the first day of their mom’s LMP and only a small percentage of women actually deliver on their due date.

Another common term you’ll hear throughout your pregnancy is trimester. A pregnancy is divided into trimesters:

  • the first trimester is from week 1 to the end of week 12
  • the second trimester is from week 13 to the end of week 26
  • the third trimester is from week 27 to the end of the pregnancy

Does Cramping Mean Miscarriage

Pin on Pregnancy

Not necessarily. Cramping may occur periodically throughout your entire pregnancy due to the stretching of the ligaments below the abdomen to make room for the growing fetus. Progesterone aids in this stretching. Cramping can occur in the first month of pregnancy for the same reason. Abdominal stretching begins early on .

That being said, most miscarriages occur before 13 weeks, so its essential that you keep a close eye on the severity and frequency of your cramps, as long as any accompanying symptoms. If youre experiencing intense, constant cramping paired with spotting or heavy bleeding, call your doctor immediately. These could be signs of a miscarriage.

Heavy cramping and severe pain on one side of your pelvis could also be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy, which can be extremely serious. If you experience this type of pain, call your doctor immediately.

What Are The Chances Of Delivering On My Due Date

Just four percent. The due date isan estimate, says Scurfield. There are all sorts of factors that go into when a woman delivers. It may have to do with the size of the fetus or the health of the mother. Some women will have one baby early and the next baby late. Its nice to be able to predict and plan, but babies come when theyre ready.

How Many Weeks Pregnant Are You And What Week Of Pregnancy Are You In

The other confusing calculation is how many weeks or months pregnant you are and what week or month of pregnancy you are in.

It is actually really simple.

For example, lets say you are now 4 weeks and 3 days pregnant. That means you are currently pregnant for the full 4 weeks and 3 days .

It also means you are now in your fifth week of pregnancy. During your fifth week, you are actually pregnant for four full weeks and counting the days in the fifth week. Once you reach 4 weeks and 7 days, you have reached the finish line for week 5 and will be five full weeks pregnant. You are then entering your sixth week of pregnancy.

The same goes when counting pregnancy months. To reach a certain month of pregnancy, you need to first complete all the weeks in it fully. For example, if you are in your 5th month of pregnancy, it means you are pregnant for the full 4 months , plus a certain number of weeks. After you complete all the weeks in month 5 , you will be five months pregnant and enter your sixth month.

It might help if you think about it as you think about age. Before a baby reaches the first birthday, they are already in the first year of life. But only after the first birthday you will say that your baby is one year old. After reaching the first birthday and becoming one year old, your baby enters the second year of life but wont be two years old before reaching the second birthday.

More clear now? I hope so!

First Response Pregnancy Test Accuracy Vs Date

Monday

Period is expected.

Test is 99% accurate

As you can see above, roughly one in four pregnant women who take this test will get a false negative when they take it six days before the day of their missed period. Five days before the day of the missed period, however, it will be accurate for 96% of women, and 99% of women will get the correct result if they take it four days or less before the day of the missed period.

In general, the accuracy of home pregnancy tests gets better the longer you wait to take them. If you take a test and it comes out negative and you still think you might be pregnant, wait three days and test again. If you test and it’s positive, you’re pregnant.

Other pregnancy tests are also very reliableâthey just can’t be used as early as First Response. Most brands of pregnancy test are accurate from the day of the missed period.

Be sure to follow the testing instructions of the pregnancy test brand that you bought very closely. Different brands have different instructions.

What Does My Baby Look Like

Your baby, or embryo, is about 2mm long and growing rapidly in your womb. It’s protected by an amniotic sac, which is filled with cushioning fluid, and attached to a tiny yolk sac that provides all the nourishment it needs. The outer layer will later develop into the placenta and provide your baby with oxygen and nutrients.

What Week Is Ok To Give Birth

In general, infants that are born very early are not considered to be viable until after 24 weeks gestation. This means that if you give birth to an infant before they are 24 weeks old, their chance of surviving is usually less than 50 percent. Some infants are born before 24 weeks gestation and do survive.

Are Home Pregnancy Tests The Best Way To Check For An Early Pregnancy

Home pregnancy tests are generally very reliable. These tests involve urinating on a small test strip and then waiting for a symbol to appear in the result window. This window will usually show a test image . This symbol appears first and means that the test is working. Always check the packaging and instructions of your test to make sure it is working correctly. Within a few minutes, the test will show either a positive result or a negative result. Some digital tests will display a word or phrase .

Blood tests for a possible pregnancy are done in your healthcare providers office. This version of the test looks for hCG in your blood. You still need to wait for hCG to build up in your body before taking this type of pregnancy test. Your healthcare provider may recommend this option in some cases. Call your provider if you suspect youre pregnant and discuss the best type of test.

What If You Dont Know Your Lmp Or Your Periods Are Irregular

Pin on Pregnancy

In the case where you do not know the exact date of your last menstrual period or if you have not had a regular menstrual cycle, the doctor estimates the foetal age through ultrasound imaging. Parameters like the crown-rump length and the foetal sac measurements give an idea about the rough age of the foetus. Based on the foetal age, the expected delivery date is given by the doctor.

Metallic Taste In Mouth

The experience of constantly having a metallic taste in your mouth is a pregnancy sign that I am familiar with. It’s difficult to describe, but your mouth feels like you have been sucking on a coin.

It’s a pregnancy symptom that is very common and is unmistakable

You may also experience other strange flavors in your mouth, like saltiness, rancidness, or just a bad taste in general.8

What Happens During Week 3

The fertilized egg moves down your fallopian tube and divides into more and more cells. It reaches your uterus about 34 days after fertilization. The dividing cells then form a ball that floats around in the uterus for about 23 days.

Pregnancy begins when the ball of cells attaches to the lining of your uterus. This is called implantation. It usually starts about 6 days after fertilization and takes about 34 days to be complete.

Pregnancy doesnt always happen, even if an egg is fertilized by a sperm. Up to half of all fertilized eggs pass out of your body when you get your period, before implantation is complete.

Smell Sensitivity And Food Aversions During Early Pregnancy

Smell sensitivity is a symptom of early pregnancy thats mostly self-reported. Theres little scientific evidence about smell sensitivity during the first trimester. However, it might be important, since smell sensitivity may trigger nausea and vomiting. It may also cause strong distaste for certain foods.

You may experience either a heightened or lessened sense of smell during pregnancy, according to 2017 research. This is especially common during the first and third trimesters. Heightened smell is more common than lessened smell. Some smells that never bothered you before may become less pleasing or even trigger nausea.

The good news is that your sense of smell usually returns to normal after delivery, or within 6 to 12 weeks postpartum.

What Is Gestational Age Can It Be Different Than What The Calculator Shows

14 weeks Pregnant in Months | What You Need to Know

Gestational age is the term used to describe how far along the pregnancy is and how long baby has been gestating .

If you get an ultrasound you may notice a GA on the image with a number of weeks and days. This figure is based on how the baby is measuring, not on your LMP, which the due date calculator uses.

Its normal for these dates to not match up perfectly. If there are significant differences in the dates, your doctor may want to dig deeper to determine conception date. As a result, your midwife or doctor may change your due date based on the ultrasound gestational age.

Early ultrasounds are very accurate when dating a pregnancy and can be helpful if you dont know your LMP or your periods are irregular.

Note that you dont have to have an early ultrasound, especially if you are fairly certain of your cycle length and conception window. This study shows that early dating ultrasounds dont change the incidence of induction.

You Have Been Feeling Dizzy

Blood pressure can gradually decrease in early pregnancy due to a combination of shifting hormones and the heart beating faster. This can leave you feeling faint and light-headed but dont worry, this is normal for the early stages of pregnancy. If you are regularly feeling dizzy and you are concerned, book a check-up with your doctor.

What If Your Lmp Is Not Known Or Periods Are Irregular

The due date calculation works ideally if your periods are regular, i.e., if they follow a 28-day cycle.

If your periods are irregular or you do not remember your last period, you should wait for your first ultrasound pregnancy scan. Also known as a dating scan, it will provide the number of weeks remaining for your due date .

If the scan does not give the correct results, your doctor may ask you to wait for some more time. Ideally, the dating scan will be done between six and 13 weeks plus six days .

How To Calculate In Weeks

To calculate how many weeks you are, start by taking note of the first day of your last period on a calendar, or your LMD . Every 7 days from that first day counts as 1 week in your pregnancy.

For example, if the first day of the last period was March 11 and you recently had a positive pregnancy test, your first day of pregnancy is March 11 . If March 11 was day 1, then March 18 will mark week 1 of your pregnancy. April 16, for example is calculated as 1 week and 1 day of your pregnancy, and you will have been in your second month.

Calculation is done this way because the exact fertilization day is difficult to determine. Sperm cells can survive in the woman’s body for up to 7 days, and can fertilize the egg and initiate the pregnancy on any of these days.

How Long Does It Take Hcg Levels To Be Detected By Home Pregnancy Tests

6 ways to know if you are pregnant before taking a ...

Pregnancy doesn’t necessarily start the day that two people have sex. An egg can be fertilized by sperm up to six days after intercourse.5 And then, it can take between six and ten days for the egg to implant itself in the uterus.

The hormone that home pregnancy tests look for starts being released from when the fertilized egg implants itself, which is why you have to wait for them to be effective.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, HCG is made by cells formed in the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it is has implanted itself in the wall of the uterus.4

Levels of HCG can be detected by two kinds of tests:5

  • Blood testâaccurate as early as 11 days after conception
  • Urine testâaccurate as early as 12 to 14 days after conception

So, if you don’t know when your period is supposed to start and you think you might be pregnant, you should test about two weeks after you had sex and possibly conceived.5

If it’s negative and your period still hasn’t come and you still think you might be pregnant, test again in another week.

How Many Trimesters Are There In Pregnancy

The entire pregnancy period is divided into three trimesters of three months each. The first three months of pregnancy come under the first trimester, the fourth to sixth months of pregnancy form the second trimester, and the seventh to ninth month form the last trimester of pregnancy. Usually, each trimester is characterised by some specific changes, and this categorisation helps in understanding the pregnancy better.

Calculate Using A Dating Ultrasound

A dating ultrasound, which measures the length of the fetus from crown to rump, is an accurate way to estimate your due date or how far along you are if completed within the first trimester . Most women have a pretty good idea of when their last period was, within a day or two, says Scurfield. If a woman has no idea, youll want to try to get her as early as you can. Once you get past 13 weeks, the variability of the growth is such that an ultrasound can be off by a week or so.

How Long Does A Pregnancy Last

As known, pregnancy lasts for 40 weeks or 280 days. It is also known it lasts for 9 calendar months.

That is where the confusion often happens. If one month has 4 weeks, then 40 weeks must be 10 months, right? Then how can we say that a pregnancy lasts for 9 months?

Well, 4 weeks are 28 days. As you know, every month has 30 or 31 days. For that reason, one calendar month doesnt last for 4 weeks, but instead for 4.3 weeks on average. That is why we say that pregnancy lasts for 9 months, although it actually lasts a bit more, something like 9 months and one week.
