Nexplanon Implant Experience | Pregnant While On NEXPLANON?

There are certain medications that will make the contraceptive implant less effective. This includes some HIV, epilepsy and tuberculosis medications, St Johns Wort and certain antibiotics such as rifabutin or rifampicin.

We recommend having a conversation with your doctor to ensure that any medication you are taking will not affect the effectiveness of your implant. If your medication does affect this method then we would recommend looking for another method of contraception that isnt affected by your medication.

The Effects Of Contraception On Future Fertility Sep 09 2019

Blog Fertility

If youre considering trying to conceive soon, its important to choose a method of contraception that matches your plan. Most contraception methods dont have a long-term effect on future fertility, but some can cause a delay in returned fertility after you stop using them.

Its also important to remember that while many contraceptives stop ovulation, they dont press pause on your ovaries. Your eggs aren’t being released but they’re still ageing with you! We encourage you to consider factors that regularly affect fertility, like age and overall health, when youre considering your fertility plans. It’s also important to look at other risks associated with each contraceptive method before choosing your contraception. Here, we’re only discussing how each contraceptive method, used correctly and with no complications, could affect your return to fertility.

Changes To Your Period

During the first 3-6 months after insertion of your Kyleena IUD, you may have a higher chance of experiencing bleeding and spotting. Your period may become irregular, and/or your periods may be heavier or longer than usual.

Although breakthrough bleeding and spotting will most likely decrease within the first three months after insertion, your periods may continue to be irregular.

Over time, your periods will likely become shorter and lighter. Because the progestin in Kyleena thins your uterine lining, bleeding may decrease the longer your Kyleena IUD has been in place.

Your periods may stop altogether. About 12% of women stop having periods after using Kyleena for one year.

What To Expect At The Doctor’s Office

Your doctor or another health care professional will inject medicine to numb your skin on your upper arm, where you’ll get the implant. That may sting a bit.

Then they’ll use a tool that pushes the rod in through a needle. That wonât hurt. It feels like a little bit of tugging. The process may take less than a minute.

Afterward, you should be able to feel the implant under your skin but not see it.

Can You Get Pregnant If You Use Condoms

If you use condoms perfectly every single time you have sex, theyre 98 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. But most people dont use them perfectly, so in real life, condoms are about 85 percent effective. That means almost one in five women will get pregnant each year if they just use condoms.

The best way to make sure condoms are as effective as possible is to use them correctly. Some of the most common mistakes include:

  • Putting them on too late, or pulling them off too early
  • Not leaving space at the tip of the condom for semen
  • Not checking one for damage before use
  • Using an oil based-lubricant like Vaseline or massage oil, which can damage the latex

The Side Effects/ Not So Great Of Nexplanon

Like with anything, there are always some not so great things that come with the great.

For one, the first 6 months of Nexplanon were kind of sucky. My period was all over the place. I would go one to two months without one and then be spotting for almost an entire month the next. I always had a tampon on me in case of an emergency and that was annoying. Not to mention that guys just had to get over the fact that I was probably going to be on my period for a while, thanks to my body adjusting to this new birth control.

After I got over that hump , I then started to experience breakouts like I did in high school. All of the acne that had started to pop up was clearly hormonal because I had never had pimples form on my chin or neck before. The acne thing was definitely something that almost made me get it taken out, and I know a lot of other people who have had it taken out for that exact reason. It honestly just depends on how much you can handle and if you can find a way to manage your breakouts like I have.

The implanted tube slowly releases low levels of the hormone to prevent . Without ovulation, pregnancy can’t happen because there is no egg for sperm to fertilize.

The released progestin also thickens the mucus around the cervix. This makes it hard for sperm to enter the uterus and reach any eggs that may have been released. The progestin also thins the lining of the uterus so an egg will have a hard time attaching to the wall of the uterus.

Ready For Pregnancy Your Current Birth Control May Affect How Fast Fertility Returns

When you decide to stop using birth control and try for a baby, you may be hoping to get pregnant right away. But the speed at which you can conceive may depend in part on the type of contraception youve been using.

A new study that analyzed data from nearly 18,000 women found that fertility returned quickest in patients who had used intrauterine devices or implants . These patients waited an average of just two menstrual cycles before conceiving.

Patients who used the pill or vaginal rings had to wait three cycles, those who used patch contraceptives waited four, and those who used injectable contraceptives required five to eight cycles for return of fertility.

However, the study also concluded that long-term use of any type of contraception did not have a lasting impact on the patient’s ability to get pregnant. In short, fertility is likely to return to normal, even if it does take time.

Studies like this further empower women to take control of their reproductive health. The more information you have, the better able you are to choose the best birth control method for your reproductive health and life goals.

How Soon Can I Get Pregnant After Nexplanon Is Removed

    STORY TIME|| I GOT PREGNANT ON NEXPLANON| #ectopicpregnancy

Immediately! The body becomes fertile as soon as Nexplanon is removed. With this said, however, keep in mind that youve had a long-acting form of birth control in your body . It can take up to 3 months for ovulation to return.

Nexplanon has also been working to thin the lining of your uterus, potentially making it more difficult for an embryo to implant immediately after Nexplanon is removed. It thickens back up quickly for most women , but it is best to give it a couple of cycles to recuperate. Dont be discouraged if pregnancy does not happen immediately, and keep in mind that pregnancy immediately of removal could carry a slightly increased risk for miscarriage.

If you have been using Nexplanon or other forms of birth control for many years, also keep in mind that age affects egg quality and chance of pregnancy. Every year after about age 25 your fertility slowly declines, making it ever so slightly more difficult to get pregnant as you age. Be patient with your body. Give it a full year of trying before considering infertility.

Will The Contraceptive Implant Make Me Gain Weight

There is no strong evidence that the contraceptive implant makes women put on weight. Progesterone can do this, but more so when taken in higher doses than you receive from the contraceptive implant. It can also cause fluid retention initially – which will make your weight go up – but this is usually due to fluid rather than fat.

However, many women do feel that the contraceptive implant has made them gain weight. If this happens to you then this weight gain is likely to reverse when you stop using the implant.

The early side-effects of the contraceptive implant are rather like the early symptoms of pregnancy. This is not surprising, since the early symptoms of pregnancy are caused by progesterone. It is not unusual for women to feel they may be pregnant when they first have the implant. A pregnancy test will give you an accurate answer.

    Are There Side Effects

As with any form of hormonal birth control, it is possible that you will experience side effects if you get the birth control implant. Possible side effects include spotting, irregular periods, or your period stopping . Other possible, less common side effects include, headache, nausea, weight gain, ovarian cysts, and pain, bruising, or infection at the insertion site.
