How Is Nexplanon Inserted

The insertion process for Nexplanon is very simple, straightforward, and relatively painless. It is considered a minor procedure, but your healthcare provider can do it in their office, and it only requires a local anesthetic.

After thoroughly cleaning the area with an antiseptic, your provider will numb the area of your upper arm where she will insert the implant. Once youre numb, your provider will use a special applicator to insert the implant under the skin in your upper arm. Your healthcare provider will first sterilize and apply a local anesthetic to the back of your upper arm. After checking that your arm feels numb, they will then use a special device that looks like one side of a stapler to insert the implant into your arm. This is placed right underneath the skin.
