What Is Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween Horror Nights are only the greatest Halloween events put on by any theme park in the country, and they take place at Universal Studios Orlando. Guests will encounter many different events depending on which night they choose to attend, with a majority of the attractions and rides being the same every night. Actors are hired – much like on any regular day in Disney – to portray scary figures and monsters, and it’s their job to help spook guests into the Halloween mood.

Can You Go To A Haunted House If You Are Pregnant Experts Weigh

Halloween horror nights. Scream-O-Scream. Scary movies and events galore. If you like to be in a rush in October but have a baby on board this year, you might be wondering if you can still visit a haunted house during your pregnancy. In a normal year, this is considered completely safe as long as you dont get too physical in the tight spaces of a haunted mansion. But since the pandemic began in 2020, there are a few COVID precautions to keep in mind this year.

Brittney Pohler, PA-C, MPH, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Station CollegeRomper tells in an interview that expecting moms can still enjoy some ghosts and scares during the Halloween season. In general, we consider them to be safe. For most haunted houses, the duration is usually less than 30 minutes to an hour, and its kind of the same as moderate exercise. I dont think the only aspect of heart rate is worrying for mom or baby.

Unless the haunted house requires some physical activity that the woman cannot do, such as crawling on the floor in late pregnancy, they are safe, adds Alicia Johnson, MSN, RNC-EFM, nurse-wise -certified woman at Lone Tree OB-GYN and Midwives in Denver, in an interview with Romper.

But cases of breakthrough are reported now because of the delta variant, which means that although the vaccine may prevent these patients from becoming seriously ill, they are still infected. So, for pregnant women, regardless of your vaccination status, doctors recommend taking precautions.

Halloween Horror Nights Orlando Houses & Strategy

The biggest draw of the event each year is the haunted houses. It takes months to construct these movie set-quality houses, and each one has a different theme. We probably don’t have to tell you that lines can get very long for this event! If you want to make the most of your evening, you need to decide what is important to you. Do you want to just focus on houses? Would you like to see a few houses and the show? Would you just like to ride attractions since the wait times for them will be low? Since the houses are what most people come for and see the highest waits! they are our first priority.

We recommend getting to the park at least 45 minutes ahead of the official opening at 6:30 p.m. to make the most of your time. Typically, Universal opens the gates earlier than the official starting time. In our experience, the gates begin to open for guests between 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

The very best way to do more at the event is to take advantage of Halloween Horror Nights Early Entry, also known as Stay and Scream. You’ll need regular park admission and a Halloween Horror Nights ticket to do this, but many of you will already be spending the day in the parks, so why not take advantage? We’ve written a full post on how Halloween Horror Nights Early Entry works. This year, we were able to knock out two houses before the event officially started at 6:30 p.m .

Jack Attacks

An old friend has made his terrifying comeback. The most notorious icon in HHN history, Jack the Clown, has returned to scare the living daylights out of us frogs! This year, he’s popping up where you least expect with him with surprise “Jack Attacks” that will send you running for your life. Nowhere is safe, as Jack’s ominous and unrelenting presence will infiltrate every corner of the event from the streets to the houses to places you will never expect in your wildest nightmares. We were lucky enough to catch him in his brother’s scare zone, Lights, Camera, Hacktion: Eddie’s Revenge. It was so much fun watching him interact with the crowd aka, his loyal “Maniacs” and be as chaotically unhinged as we remember him!

Also, it’s definitely worth it to get to the park before the gates open as Jack addresses the crowd via mega-phone and welcomes everyone back to Halloween Horror Nights. Get a good spot at the center turnstiles because, while you can hear him, you won’t be able to see him from the sides.

How Do You Make The Shining Maze Scary Universals Horror Nights Unleashes Jack With An Ax

After a decade of failed attempts, Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights creative director John Murdy finally landed the rights to turn Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” into a haunted maze and immediately ran into his worst fear.

“What am I going to do?” Murdy asked himself. “How am I going to make this scary?”

Based on the 1977 Stephen King book, the horror film follows aspiring writer Jack Torrance, played by Jack Nicholson, after he accepts an off-season caretaker job at the haunted Overlook Hotel. The hotel’s horrific history reveals itself during a blizzard that leaves the Torrance family snowbound.

The challenges of turning the movie into a maze were daunting, Murdy said. All the scenes take place in one location. Many of the film’s most visual moments don’t lend themselves to a haunted maze. The 1980 movie is more psychological than the visceral slasher films of the era. Much of the action happens inside Jack’s head.

“It’s the whole idea of Jack’s descent into madness,” Murdy said during a preview tour of the maze. “Like a lot of movies of its time, it’s a slow burn.”

To tackle the daunting task, Murdy made a list of all the movie scenes he most wanted to include in the maze and then figured out how to pull them off theatrically with live actors.

The film’s psychological, psychic, telepathic and supernatural elements are difficult to represent in a haunted maze. The key, Murdy said, was to focus on the core fear in “The Shining”: a foreboding sense of impending dread.

Everything I Learned Behind The Scenes At Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween is my Super Bowl. I pull out all of the stops with my costumes, attend all of the attractions, and wear all of the cheesy horror-themed shirts I can find. So when Universal Studios Hollywood actually agreed to let me come behind the scenes and perform as a scare actor what it calls its cast of haunted house actors at Halloween Horror Nights, I was beside myself and pumped.

Halloween Horror Nights has been a beloved attraction since 1991, when it started at the Florida park as a three-night attraction under the name “Fright Night.” The name quickly changed to Halloween Horror Nights in 1992 and was brought to Hollywood in 1997 but only ran until 2000 before undergoing a five-year hiatus. In 2006, Horror Nights returned to Hollywood, and it has been a mainstay ever since. The event is now a month and a half long, opening in mid-September and closing out the first week of November, and both Singapore and Japan locations of Universal Studios now participate.

Because the scare actors are constantly moving inside the mazes and Scare Zones, they work up a sweat, meaning the makeup applied has to be alcohol-based to keep it from running. While one crop of actors opens up the event, another group arrives once the park opens to get transformed for their parts and will swap in for the first round of scare actors.

Check out the video to see my transformation! Halloween Horror Nights is open select nights until Nov. 4.
