How Does The Implant Work On The Body

The progestogen hormone in the implant is called etonogestrel. It is released into the bloodstream at a slow, steady rate.

The progestogen works mainly by stopping the release of the egg from the ovary. It also thickens the cervical mucus which forms a plug in the neck of the womb . This stops sperm getting through to the womb to fertilise an egg.

It also makes the lining of the womb thinner. This means that if an egg were to fertilise, it would not be likely to be able to attach to the womb .

In order for you to get pregnant you need all of these things to be working . The contraceptive implant blocks all three stages.

Can You Get Pregnant If You Use Condoms

If you use condoms perfectly every single time you have sex, theyre 98 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. But most people dont use them perfectly, so in real life, condoms are about 85 percent effective. That means almost one in five women will get pregnant each year if they just use condoms.

The best way to make sure condoms are as effective as possible is to use them correctly. Some of the most common mistakes include:

  • Putting them on too late, or pulling them off too early
  • Not checking one for damage before use
  • Using an oil based-lubricant like Vaseline or massage oil, which can damage the latex

How Does The Birth Control Implant Work

The implant is a tiny, thin rod of plastic that a doctor inserts under the skin of your upper arm. The rod releases the hormone progestin to prevent pregnancy. Progestin thickens the cervical mucus and can stop ovulation. By thickening the cervical mucus, sperm is blocked from fertilizing the egg. And when ovulation is stopped, there is no egg for sperm to fertilize.

Whats Your Goal For Using A Contraceptive

Got Pregnant with TWINS while on IMPLANT birth control ! | Part 1

There is no single contraceptive method thats right for everyone. While preventing pregnancy is the most common reason to use birth control, doctors may prescribe them for regulating periods, helping with menstrual or endometriosis pain, or controlling acne.

Its important to think about these things because not every contraceptive can do it all. Here are a few questions to ask yourself when choosing a birth control method:

  • Do you have any health conditions?
  • Do you want your contraceptive to cause you to bleed less or at all?
  • Do you also need protection against sexually transmitted infections?
  • If you know you want to become pregnant in the future, how important is it to be able to get pregnant right away?
  • Is this method affordable or covered by my health insurance?
  • Will you be able to use it correctly every time?

Knowing your options for birth control is important, but so is being honest about your goals and priorities. Also, remember that your choice of birth control may change over your lifetime due to evolving health and reproductive goals.

Oral Health Challenges During Pregnancy

The Implant

Dental implant surgery during pregnancy is concerning because you confront oral health challenges because of hormonal changes increasing the chances of dental implant failure. In addition, dentists are reluctant to conduct clinical research on women because they consider it unethical.

For example, you might confront challenges like changes to your immune system, pregnancy gingivitis, and gestational diabetes, which can contribute to implant failure at a higher rate than others. When dentists consider patients for dental implants, whether men or women, they perform a thorough oral and health evaluation regardless of whether the patient wants a single tooth replacement or an entire arch. Dentists demand patients be in optimal oral and general fitness for the best outcomes after receiving dental implants.
