In the very rare chance you become pregnant whilst using the contraceptive implant then you should contact your doctor. If you become pregnant whilst on Nexplanon, then you have a slightly higher risk of an ectopic pregnancy . If you experience unusual vaginal bleeding or lower stomach pain then you must call your doctor immediately. The Nexplanon implant should be removed if pregnancy occurs, but there is no evidence to suggest falling pregnant whilst using the implant poses any harm to the developing pregnancy.

How Long Does It Take To Get An Implant In Your Arm
First, a local anaesthetic is used to numb the inside of your upper arm. Then an applicator is used to insert the implant just under the inside of your skin. The longer answer: While it is true that you may not get your period if youre breastfeeding, you can still ovulate, and if youre ovulating, you can get pregnant.
When you breastfeed exclusively, defined as nursing at least every four hours during the daytime and at least every six hours at night, for the first six months postpartum and before the return of your period, you typically no longer ovulate, and your chances of getting pregnant are much lower. Only about 2 out of 100 women who breastfeed according to these exact criteria get pregnant.
But if you know you want to space your children out over a specific period of time, or you simply know youre closing up shop for good , youll definitely want to use some form of birth control.
This is especially true once your baby is ready to start solid food , as youll likely get your period again. Its also true if you start supplementing with formula or dont stick to all the criteria of exclusive breastfeeding.

Can You Get Pregnant If You Use Spermicide
If youre just using spermicide a chemical that you put deep within the vagina before you have sex alone, its not a reliable method of birth control. More than a quarter of all women 28 percent will get pregnant using just this method.

How Does Female Sterilisation Affect Future Fertility
The short answer: As you would expect, sterilisation can have a significant effect on future fertility.
The long answer: Tubal ligation, or sterilisation, is a process by which the fallopian tubes are blocked , preventing sperm from reaching and fertilising the eggs. Sterilisation is generally considered a permanent contraceptive, and is only recommended for women who are absolutely sure they dont want to have children. There is a reversal process for sterilisation, though fertility is not the same following a reversal.
The chance of getting pregnant after a reversal is around 40-70%, depending on age, how long between the sterilisation and reversal, and the method of the original surgery. There will likely be some scarring that will affect fertility. Around 50% of women eventually achieve pregnancy after a reversal. The risk of ectopic pregnancy increases for women who have undergone sterilisation and reversal.
It’s important to remember that pregnancy can be achieved using IVF without performing a reversal, as the eggs are retrieved directly from the ovaries. Using IVF, the likelihood of pregnancy after tubal ligation is the same as in the general population.
How Would I Know I Was Pregnant If I Use The Contraceptive Implant
A missed period isnt a good indicator of pregnancy when you are using the contraceptive implant. This is because the implant often makes periods lighter or more irregular, and women often find that their periods stop completely while they have the implant. However, some women find the opposite can occur, and they may have heavier, longer periods.
However, on the very rare chance that you become pregnant while using the contraceptive implant, there are a number of signs you could look for. These may include a change in the pattern of your periods , tender breasts, tiredness, or nausea. The easiest and safest way to check if you are concerned you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test.
If you do become pregnant while using the implant, it is important to see your doctor as soon as you can. Equally, if you develop stomach pain, you must see your doctor urgently to rule out any chance of an ectopic pregnancy. There is good evidence to show that implants do not cause birth defects and will not cause harm to a developing pregnancy. However, it is suggested that in this situation the implant is removed as soon as possible.6

If You Use The Birth Control Implant
If you use the birth control implant, or Nexplanon®, your fertility should return fairly quickly after the implant is removed from your body. Like with the IUD, its possible for some women to get pregnant immediately after removal of the implant.

When Does The Contraceptive Implant Start Working After Giving Birth
After giving birth you are able to have the implant fitted any time and it is fine to use if you are breastfeeding. If fitted up to 21 days after giving birth you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. If the implant is fitted after 21 days, you will need to ensure that you use another method of contraception such as condoms for 7 days after the implant is fitted.
