Medication Abortion Involves Taking Pills
A medication abortion is an abortion using pills that you take orally , or that are put through the vagina, into the cervix. This type of abortion can be done as soon as a pregnancy begins, and is usually available until week 10-12 of pregnancy, and sometimes later, depending on where you live.
It typically involves taking one pill at the clinic and then going home and taking another pill. In some areas you may have the choice to take the second pill in the clinic as well, although most people report a preference for being at home . After taking the second pill, the uterus will cramp, bleed, and empty over the course of a few hoursâsimilar to a miscarriage.
The level of cramping, pain, and bleeding can be intense, and may depend on the timing in the pregnancy . A follow-up appointment might happen a week or two later, or no follow up may be needed.
First trimester medication abortions are safe and very effective. More than 95 in 100 people who have a medication abortion need no further treatment . In the small number of cases where the pills donât work completely, another pill or a procedural abortion is used as a follow up. More serious complications are very rare, occurring in less than 0.4 per 100 cases .

Black Blue And Red Cohosh To Abort Pregnancy Naturally
Black, Blue, and Red Cohosh are all unique herbs each with a different set of uses. The Cohosh family of herbs has been used for centuries in Eastern medicine. Blue Cohosh is excellent for balancing hormones in women. It eases menstrual cramps and pain and regulates the menstrual cycle. When used during the last week of pregnancy, it tones the uterine walls, prepares the body for easy and fast delivery and triggers labor in late pregnancies. Blue cohosh is also a leading ingredient in the treatment of endometriosis, chlamydia and cervical dysplasia. Black Cohosh is used by menopausal women to ease symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, irritability, and insomnia among others.
As far as termination of gestation is concerned, Black and Blue Cohosh when used together will cause uterine contractions. This is because they contain Oxytocin and Caulosaponin compounds. Black and Blue Cohosh should be taken as tinctures . This is because the active ingredients in the Cohosh family of herbs are not soluble in water. The dosage should be 20 drops of each every 4 hours for five days. The Blue Cohosh is primarily the one that triggers the abortion process while the Black Cohosh exacerbates its effects by softening the cervix and encouraging regular uterine contractions. Most herbalists recommend taking Red Cohosh for a full day after the process of termination begins to ensure complete extraction of all the fetal material from your uterus.

Vitamin C For Abortion
Vitamin C is a super healthy nutrient, having ample health benefits. It is abundant in many fruits such as pineapple, papaya, berries, etc. However, it has a flip side, in that it can be used as a home remedy for an abortion. You can consume it via fruits, or you can take Vitamin C supplements to terminate your pregnancy. However, if you wish to take supplements, it is recommended to get in touch with your doctor before doing so. Consuming high levels of vitamin C can prove to be detrimental and may cause kidney problems. Consuming Vitamin C increases oestrogen and reduces the progesterone in the body. Low levels of progesterone leads to bleeding and eventually causes abortion.

Parsley For Natural Abortion
Parsley is one of our favorite garnishes. It smells lovely and tastes even better. There is no limit to the types of food that could benefit from the flavor of Parsley. As it turns out, Parsley is jam-packed with Vitamin C and volatile oils.
These properties of Parsley make it a suitable abortifacient. The Vitamin C in Parsley encourages heightened levels of Estrogen and increased blood flow to the reproductive organs. The volatile oils help in thinning the uterine walls, softening the cervix opening, and inducing uterine spasms.
- To induce spontaneous abortion, take a handful of fresh parsley leaves in a cup of water and blend them. Strain the mixture and drink the resulting water 2-3 times a day for five days.
- In case you only have dried Parsley, take three teaspoons of the dried Parsley in a cup of hot water and drink the mixture. You can add a bit of lemon or honey to improve the taste.
- A third way that you can use Parsley to induce menstruation is by taking a few fresh sprigs and inserting them into your vagina overnight for five days. The sprigs are basically to heighten the Vitamin C concentration in your reproductive organs. You will need to change the sprigs at least 2-3 times a day to ensure the levels of Vitamin C stay constant.
- Herbalists recommend that you combine drinking the Parsley with inserting the sprigs in your vagina to maximize your chances of successful abortion.
How To Speed Up Recovery After The Abortion
Though you can get back to a normal routine within a few hours of abortion, it is advisable to take rest for two to three days for your body and mind to cope with the exhaustion .
- Do not lift heavy objects that weigh over 50 pounds. They may aggravate bleeding and lead to complications.
- Do not indulge in exercise, including biking, running, and aerobics, to avoid risks.
- Monitor your body temperature every day at least for a week as high temperatures might indicate an infection.
- Avoid intercourse as the cervix is still tender and will not close quickly. Avoiding sex also decreases the risk of infections. Talk to your doctor to know what the best time to return to sexual activity is.
- Use hot compress, such as a hot water bottle or a heating pad on your belly to get relief from cramping and pain.
- Avoid swimming and tub bathing for at least two weeks. Otherwise, it may cause irritation and infection in the vaginal area.
- Do not use anything, such as tampons or contraceptive implants, inside the vagina for at least two weeks.
- Include a rich diet of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, protein, whole grains, and drink a lot of water.
It is advisable to see a doctor within a month after abortion to check if the healing is complete.

Third Trimester Abortion Methods
Intact Dilation and Extraction
In this procedure, the physician pulls the fetus feet-first out of the uterus into the birth canal, except for the head which is kept lodged just inside the uterus.
The base of the fetus’s skull is punctured with a sharp instrument such as a long scissors or pointed metal tube.
A catheter is inserted into the wound and removes the fetus’s brain with a powerful suction machine. This causes the skull to collapse, and allows for the expulsion of the fetus.
Intra-Amniotic Instillation: Putting liquids that contain large amounts of salts into the amniotic sac.
Local Anesthetic: The use of medication to numb a small area of the body.
Membranes: Thin layer of tissue that surrounds the fetus.
Oxytocin:Drugs that cause the uterus to contract.
Placenta: Flattened, round mass of spongy tissue that contains a lot of blood vessels. It attaches to the inside of the wall of the uterus and carries food and oxygen to the fetus, and carries wastes away from the fetus.
Prostaglandin: Substance present in many body tissues. Used to induce abortions or labor.
Suction Catheter: A tube that sucks the fetus, placenta and membranes from the uterus.
Suppositories: A cone-shaped semi-solid substance used to put medication in the vagina.
Systemic: Pertains to the whole body. Involves many organ systems.
Trimester: One of three periods of about 3 months each into which pregnancy is divided.

How Effective Is Medical Abortion
Mifepristone is about 97% effective. In rare cases when medical abortion doesnt work, surgical abortion may be necessary.
What is surgical abortion?
Surgical abortion is when a doctor performs a procedure to remove the lining of the womb. There are 2 common procedures:
- Manual vacuum aspiration .
- Dilatation and evacuation .
Both procedures use suction to empty the womb. MVA uses a handheld tool. D& E is done with a suction machine and other tools. MVA is usually done in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. D& E can be done after the first month of pregnancy and before the end of the 20th week. It is usually done during the second trimester.
Before the procedure, the doctor can give the woman medicine. This will help her feel calm. Then the doctor injects the area around the opening to the womb with medicine. This makes the area numb. The doctor uses a tool or medicine to stretch open the cervix. He or she then inserts a tube through the cervix and into the uterus. The tube is attached to a suction or vacuum pump. The contents of the uterus are suctioned out and emptied through the tube.

What Happens During A Medication Abortion
The abortion pill process has several steps and includes two different medicines.
First, you take a pill called mifepristone. This medicine stops the pregnancy from growing. Some people feel nauseous or start bleeding after taking mifepristone, but its not common. Your doctor or nurse may also give you antibiotics to take to prevent infection.
The second medicine is called misoprostol. Youll either take the misoprostol right away, or up to 48 hours after you take the first pill your doctor or nurse will let you know how and when to take it. This medicine causes cramping and bleeding to empty your uterus.
For most people, the cramping and bleeding usually starts 1-4 hours after taking the misoprostol. Its normal to see large blood clots or clumps of tissue when this is happening. Its kind of like having a really heavy, crampy period, and the process is very similar to an early miscarriage.
The cramping and bleeding can last for several hours. Most people finish passing the pregnancy tissue in 4-5 hours, but it may take longer. The cramping and bleeding slows down after the pregnancy tissue comes out. You may have cramping on and off for 1 or 2 more days.
You can take pain medicine like ibuprofen about 30 minutes before you take the second medicine, misoprostol, to help with cramps. You can also take anti-nausea medicine if your doctor or nurse gives it to you. Dont take aspirin, because it can make you bleed more.
What Happens Afterwards
Immediately afterwards, you will usually feel crampy tummy pain, like period pain. You can take simple painkillers such as the ones you might use for period pain – for example, ibuprofen. The pain usually settles in a few hours.
After the abortion it is normal to have some vaginal bleeding. This should be no worse than a period and should stop after a week or so. While you are bleeding you should not use tampons or have sex. This is because you have an increased risk of getting an infection at this time. Be aware that you can become pregnant again immediately after an abortion. This is why discussing contraception with your doctor at the clinic is a good idea.
Infection may make you feel hot and sweaty and a bit sick. There may also be pain in your lower abdomen. The discharge from your vagina might become smelly. If you feel you may have an infection you should talk with your doctor.
You may feel absolutely fine the next day and be able to go back to work. You may feel quite emotional. This is normal and usually settles as your body goes back to normal. If you continue to feel upset it may help to talk with a counsellor about it. Your doctor or your clinic should be able to arrange this.
You will not normally need a follow-up appointment, unless there are any problems.
