Nexplanon Implant And Fertility After Its Removed

Ok. I’m absolutely terrified. I was on the nexplanon implant from January 10, 2013 until October 3, 2014. It is now the end of April and the only cycle I’ve had was forced by my Obgyn. My fiancé and I have been quite careless in having sex because we are going to get married and we want kids. We dont care if I get pregnant before or after. But it hasn’t happened. And I’m still not having my cycle. I’ve heard of women being infertile and having problems after the nexplanon. I also gained weight on the implant, and I’m having a very hard time losing it. My main concern for the moment is my fertility. But I want to get back down to 120 lbs too. HELP ME! I’M DESPERATE!

My Insurance Was Running Out And I Didnt Want To Risk Not Having Birth Control

Is It Normal To Not Have A Period After Nexplanon Removal

I got the Nexplanon implant in October of 2016. I was 25 and had it in for around a year and a half. At the time, my insurance through my parents was running out and I didnât have a full-time job. I didnât want to risk not having birth control if I didnât get a full time job, so I got the implant to be on the safe side. Not because I wanted to. I loved the pill I was on.

Getting it in wasnât bad because the area was numbed, but there was pain in my arm afterwards, which lasted for a few daysâlike someone punched me really hard in the arm. There werenât any mood swings, but there was HORRIBLE acne. I always had almost perfect skin before, then I started to break out every other day, and nothing cleared it up. My period was completely irregular too. I would bleed for three to four months straight, then not get a period for three months, and then it would be back for months again. It was horrible. My period was light most months, but I use a cup exclusively so things got sore inserting a cup every day for months on a light flow. I had to switch back to pads/liners, and I hated using them again.

How Long Will It Take For Me To Be Fertile Again

Most women start to ovulate again within a few weeks of having their Implanon device removed. The time frame for conceiving after using Implanon is generally thought to be the same as when stopping other forms of hormonal contraception. In terms of long term infertility risk, Implanon does not seem to be a problem.

Some women become fertile again immediately once the Implanon is removed. Alternative forms of contraception are often recommended to women before they make an appointment to have the Implanon removed, unless they are keen to conceive.

Although the Implanon device is still intended to be effective for three years, as this use by date gets closer the amount of hormone it releases is not as consistently high as when first inserted. If it is left in for longer than three years, then there is an increased risk of pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy.

In Conclusion A Brief Note

As a whole, Nexplanon is an effective and most efficient birth control method that can prevent you from unexpected pregnancy for up to 5 years. No doubt, some side effects such as arm bruising, scars, unusual and irregular blood flow, spotting, vaginal discharge, nausea, and breast tenderness are frustrating. But the efficiency of the implant is worth the mild effect.

Indeed, most of the side effects go away on their own as the body adapts to the Nexplanon chemical release. Other effects go away when you remove the BC implant. Although the period after Nexplanon removal may be annoying, it will also be on track over time.

Light spotting, heavy periods, or constipation can occur after Nexplanon removal, so you should consult your healthcare provider if you have heavier than usual bleeding or any other unusual symptom.

How Does Implanon Work

Potassium Iodide as Expectorant | Unit 4 | Inorganic chemistry.

Like many contraceptive devices, Implanon works by a combination of factors. It prevents ovulation so that there is no egg to be fertilised in the first place. It makes the lining of the uterus thin and not suitable for a fertilised egg to nestle in, as well as thickening the cervical mucous. This acts as an effective barrier for the sperm to work their way through to the uterus.

How Long Does It Take To Have A Period After Implanon Removal

3 Dec 2014 by maconnor85

Your doctor was right in stating that you should start ovulating fairly quickly. This is what I found in the professional monograph

Return to Ovulation

In clinical trials with Implanon, the etonogestrel levels in blood decreased below sensitivity of the assay by one week after removal of the implant. In addition, pregnancies were observed to occur as early as 7 to 14 days after removal. Therefore, a woman should re-start contraception immediately after removal of the implant if continued contraceptive protection is desired.

If it takes a week or two to ovulate, it may be 4 to 6 weeks before your first missed period. If youâre looking for physical symptoms of pregnancy, look for tender/sore breasts, this is usually the first thing a woman notices different before finding out she is pregnant. Good luck to you!

What Are The Side Effects Of Nexplanon

The common side effects that a lot of implants face are Changes in menstrual bleeding, Headache, Vaginal infections, Acne, Weight gain, Breast tenderness or pain, hair loss, nervousness, dizziness, increased appetite, Irritation or pain at site of implant. In a few cases there might be few more severe and uncommon side effects such as breast enlargement, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, oedema and constipation. In very rare cases side effects can also be blood clot formation, liver disease and rise in blood pressure.
