What If I Have A Positive Pregnancy Test And Then Start Bleeding
About 25-30% of pregnant women experience some type of spotting or bleeding in early pregnancy. This can be a result of many different factors including implantation bleeding, infection, cervical irritation, ectopic pregnancy or a threatened miscarriage.
Many women who have this light bleeding go on to have normal pregnancies and healthy babies. About half of the women who experience some light bleeding will go on to have heavier bleeding that will ultimately result in miscarriage.Unfortunately, there is no way to predict whether or not vaginal bleeding will progress to miscarriage. If you experience light bleeding that continues to get heavier, accompanied by painful cramping, back pain or stabbing pains, then you would want to seek medical attention right away.
If you experience some very slight spotting that then goes away, you would want to make sure to share this with your healthcare provider so that they are fully informed of everything you are experiencing in your pregnancy.
When Does The Contraceptive Implant Start Working To Protect Against Pregnancy
The implant can be inserted any time during your menstrual cycle. If the implant is inserted at the beginning of your menstrual cycle then you should be protected against pregnancy immediately.
If the contraceptive implant is fitted on any other day of your menstrual cycle then you will need to ensure that you use another method of contraception such as condoms for 7 days.

How To Explore Dry Humping
Feeling safe and comfortable are important starting points for any sexual encounter. Therefore, it’s best to avoid sharp edges, sharp objects or clothes with zippers that may cause harm to your genitals.
If you’re exploring dry humping with your partner, it’s important that the activity feels great for both of you.
You can try rubbing your clothed genitals against erogenous zones like your partner’s genitals, thighs, bum or any other part of the body that feels good. Certain sex positions, such as side by side and missionary, can enhance the pleasure for both partners, Major said.
Incorporating some of your sex toys into the mix can also elevate your dry humping experience.
“A vibrator, particularly one with multiple settings for vibrations and intensity, can be incorporated over the clothes and placed between partners while grinding,” Conger recommended.
Alternatively, you can try slipping a vibrator into your pillowcase while dry humping to enhance the sensations.
Whichever technique you try, dry humping could be just as pleasurable as other forms of sex and is a great way to enliven your sex life.
Take Care Of Your Body
Its also important so you can make good choices for your body to support your pregnancy and give your baby a healthy start in life. If you discover you are pregnant, you should follow the guidelines below.
Start prenatal vitamins
Prenatal vitamins include an extra amount of folic acid, which is important for the development of your babys brain and nervous system. Ask your doctor what type of prenatal vitamins they recommend.
Avoid alcohol and certain medications
Avoid alcohol and certain medications if you are pregnant. Alcohol significantly affects fetal brain development. Some medications can also cause birth defects. Read more about medications in pregnancy.
Avoid smoking and drugs
Avoid recreational drugs, smoking, vaping, and marijuana when pregnant. These can also cause developmental issues and birth defects in babies. Smoking harms lung development and restricts blood flow to the placenta.
Eat right and exercise
When you let your provider know youre pregnant, you will get helpful information about a healthy diet and exercise during pregnancy. Youll receive a list of foods, activities, and environmental exposures to avoid. Youll receive information about avoiding work-related exposures, too . Your provider will see if you are up-to-date on vaccinations or if there are any other recommended vaccinations you should receive.

What About If I Am Being Prescribed Certain Medications
There are certain medications that will make the contraceptive implant less effective. This includes some HIV, epilepsy and tuberculosis medications, St Johns Wort and certain antibiotics such as rifabutin or rifampicin.
We recommend having a conversation with your doctor to ensure that any medication you are taking will not affect the effectiveness of your implant. If your medication does affect this method then we would recommend looking for another method of contraception that isnt affected by your medication.
When Should I Call My Doctor About A New Pregnancy
If youve missed your period and gotten a positive pregnancy test, your next step will be to call your healthcare provider for your first appointment. While scheduling, your provider may ask if you have already started taking a prenatal vitamin containing folic acid. Prenatal vitamins are important in early pregnancy because they help in the development of your babys neural tube. The neural tube will become your babys brain and spine. Many healthcare providers recommend that anyone who could become pregnant take folic acid at all times.
If youre planning a pregnancy, a preconception appointment with your healthcare provider is a good place to start. A preconception appointment is especially important if you take medication for a chronic illness or have other medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure or lupus.
During this appointment, your provider will discuss any current medical conditions, as well as your general health before pregnancy. This appointment is meant to get you into the best place for a new pregnancy.

What Is The Likelihood That Youll Get Pregnant Throughout Your Cycle
Now that you know the answer to the question of âare you fertile after your period?â is maybe, letâs talk numbers. According to a 2018 study, the likelihood of conception in individuals between the ages of 25 to 40 typically follows these patterns:
- Most likely, when you have sex 1 to 2 days before ovulation
- Lower likelihood when sex is three or more days before ovulation
- The lowest likelihood occurs when sex is approximately 7 days before ovulating
However, keep in mind that your cycle isnât perfect. A lower likelihood doesnât mean there isnât a chance for pregnancy to occur. Ovulation can happen at different times each month, and you can still get pregnant if you have sexual intercourse while you have your period.

You Can Be Pregnant And Still Think Youre Getting A Period
OK, so maybe you didnt bother to listen to the previous section of this article AT ALL. You had sex without protection, spent the rest of your cycle quietly praying to the deity of your choice, and when you finally got your period, you publicly rejoiced, throwing a tiny parade in honor of your empty womb .
But dont start that dance party yet, cowboy. While you cant get your actual period while pregnant, according to Dr. Janelle Luk, MD, reproductive endocrinologist and medical director/co-founder of Generation Next Facility, you can experience bleeding that may look extremely similar. A common and harmless reason for vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is implantation bleeding, when an embryo is implanting into the endometrium, Luk tells Bustle. According to the American Pregnancy Association, though this bleeding may be lighter than your average period, it may occur around when you normally experience your period, leading many pregnant folks to get confused and mistake it for a period/ confirmation that theyre not pregnant.
I dont say all of this to scare you â OK, thats actually a total lie, I am definitely telling you this to scare you. Because accidental pregnancy is scary as hell! Getting knocked up even though you thought you were kinda, sorta taking precautions is a terrible, terrible feeling. And Im sure you already have enough things in this life to feel terrible about .

Sign #: Breast Tenderness
You may have experienced that time of the month where your breasts are extremely sore, achy and have an overall heavy feeling. This is due to an increase in the hormone progesterone, which your body produces right after ovulation. So while sore breasts cant predict when youll ovulate, they may clue you in to the fact ovulation occurred that month, which can be a reassuring sign of fertility.

Factors That Change The Time You Ovulate
The sex hormones estrogen and progesterone largely determine the duration of a menstrual cycle. For example, over the course of a cycle, rising estrogen levels trigger ovulation and thicken the uterine lining so that you can potentially conceive and nurture a fertilized egg.
Slight changes in estrogen and progesterone levels can lead to changes in cycle duration and when you ovulate. These changes can come from factors like age, ethnicity, and body mass index.
Stress, illness, and other medical conditions can also affect when you ovulate, and alter the typical length of your cycle. Even somebody with a 31-day cycle might have a shorter cycle than their average and have a slip-up, Childson says.

Pros Of Blood Testing
- Blood tests can detect pregnancy earlier than a home pregnancy test, about 6 to 8 days after ovulation, or about 7 12 days after possible conception .
- This could mean that you get a result as early as 9 days after possible conception, or 5 days earlier than a home pregnancy test would be able to detect .
For most women, it makes more sense to wait and do a pregnancy test at home because of its convenience and low cost, as well as the fact that youd only find out a day or two earlier with a blood test .
For others, especially those with a high risk for miscarriage or other pregnancy complications, their doctor may recommend getting a blood test.

What Do You Need To Know About Tubal Ligation
Lets see what the scientific point of view is. What is tubal ligation? Tubal ligation sometimes referred to as female sterilization is a birth control method that involves surgically occluding both fallopian tubes to prevent the ovum and sperm from uniting. The most commonly used method, the modified Pomeroy tubal ligation .
What happens to the eggs during tubal ligation reversal?
This procedure is commonly known as having your tubes tied. During the process of tubal ligation reversal, the blocked sections of the fallopian tubes are rejoined to the remaining part of the fallopian tubes. This causes the eggs to yet again travel through the tubes and sperm to swim up through the fallopian tubes and adhere on an egg.
Is It Possible To Be Pregnant And Have A Period
No matter how many precautions you take, having sex can still feel like youre rolling the dice when it comes to pregnancy, especially if youre prone to nervousness â Sure, were using condoms/spermicide/the pill/an IUD/are just waving our genitals at each other from across an empty ice skating rink and not touching in any way, but what if something goes wrong and I GET PREGNANT BY ACCIDENT? For those of us invested in this kind of reproductive neurosis, there may only be a few days a month when we get a respite from these grinding pregnancy fears â when we have our periods. That red smear on our underoos causes us to release a sigh of relief, because it means that were not currently pregnant, and we cant get pregnant for the next few days right? RIGHT??!! WHY ARE YOU BEING SO QUIET WHEN I AM ASKING YOU AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT QUESTION???
People, I dont like to be the bearer of bad news. I like to be the bearer of good news, like how you can buy Easter candy all year on the Internet. But Im also a vajournalist, and as such, I am sworn to tell the truth .

Truth: You Can Get Pregnant After 40
All that said, getting pregnant after 40 is entirely possible. Plenty of women have babies after 40 and even 41. Your risk of infertility increases at 40, along with your risks of miscarriage and pregnancy complications. It may also take a little longer for you to get pregnant. But youre not sterile just because you celebrated your 40th birthday. Even if youve started perimenopause, until youve actually completed menopause, you should use contraception if you want to avoid pregnancy.
Period Symptoms But Period Like Bleeding
If you are already pregnant, period like bleeding may be due to a miscarriage, rough vaginal intercourse or vaginal infections. You should inform your doctor.
Spotting before period with early pregnancy symptoms nausea, fatigue and breast changes, is likely because of implantation.

You Can Only Conceive On Two Days Each Cycle
This is not true. The ‘fertile window’ lasts up to 6 days. You are at your most fertile the and the day before. However, because sperm can survive for up to five days, having sex on the days leading up to ovulation can increase your chances of getting pregnant.
- can help you pinpoint up to four days when you are most fertile.
- is designed to identify all of your fertile days by detecting the two fertility hormones estrogen and luteinising hormone .
Age Is A Major Factor For Women
Youve probably heard the phrase your biological clock is ticking. This phrase refers to your fertile window. Women cant conceive after their menstrual cycles stop, usually sometime in your 40s or 50s. Men produce sperm throughout their lives, but women are born with a set number of eggs that decreases as you age.
At birth you have about two million eggs but naturally lose hundreds of thousands of them by the time you reach puberty, says Cross. Your body continues to lose eggs no matter what you do. And the rate at which women lose eggs accelerates around the age of 37.
The quality of eggs stored in the ovaries also declines over time. The eggs youre born with are naturally paused in the process of dividing their DNA, Cross explains. They complete that process, or ripen, when you ovulate them 20 to 40 years later. The longer eggs are stuck in the mid-division stage, the more likely that process will go wrong creating eggs with the wrong number of chromosomes. That results in not becoming pregnant, experiencing miscarriages or having babies with genetic syndromes due to chromosomal abnormalities.
The bottom line: The quality and number of eggs a woman has decreases throughout her lifetime and egg loss accelerates around the age of 37, which makes it more difficult to become pregnant.
