Can You Get Pregnant From Nexplanon

Pregnancy Symptoms While On Nexplanon

Pregnant On Nexplanon-(Storytime)

Although nexplanon is the most effective method to prevent pregnancy, still there is a chance of conception, which is exceptional. For instance, assume a woman is pregnant while she is on nexplanon. In that situation, she should see a doctor right away because the risk of an ectopic pregnancy is high.

Females who get pregnant while on contraception can notice the following pregnancy symptoms while on Nexplanon:

  • Sleep disturbances
  • Common cold

After noticing these symptoms, if you doubt that you are pregnant, you should take a pregnancy test at home. If the test is positive, you need to talk to your doctor as soon as possible.

Other Benefits Of Nexplanon Are:

  • Its very discrete and not detectable once it is placed.
  • You can forget about it once it is placed in your arm.
  • You dont have to think about it before or during intercourse.
  • It can affect and reduce menstrual pain.
  • It doesnt contain estrogen.
  • If you, in the meantime, wish to get pregnant, it wont cause you a problem.

The Nexplanon is the only birth control implant approved and available in the US since 2014 when it substituted the Implanon.

How Does Implantable Contraception Work

The implanted tube slowly releases low levels of the hormone to prevent . If a girl doesnt ovulate, she cant get pregnant because there is no egg to be fertilized.

The released progestin also thickens the mucus around the cervix. This makes it hard for sperm to enter the uterus and reach any eggs that may have been released. The progestin also thins the lining of the uterus so an egg will have a hard time attaching to the wall of the uterus.

Can You Get Pregnant On The Implant

When Nexplanon is inserted correctly the chances of getting pregnant are very few which is around 1 out of every 100 which is just 1 percent. There are still some unanswered questions about how effective Nexplanon is on overweight women as not many studies have been done including overweight women. The chances of getting pregnant on Nexplanon are very rare but it is technically possible. But you should know that the side effects just after the implantation of Nexplanon can mimic the symptoms of pregnancy as the body is not usually used to the hormones at that time.

How Does Nexplanon Work

Nexplanon contains etonogestrel. Etonogestrel is the synthetic form of naturally occurring female hormone, progesterone. Nexplanon releases etonogestrel into the blood stream of the implant. The main way in which Nexplanon prevents pregnancy is that it releases high amount of synthetic progesterone, tricking the body into believing that ovulation has already occurred and prevents the eggs from being formed in the ovary. Etonogestrel also effects the natural mucus at the cervix. This increases the thickness of the mucus making it difficult for the sperm to enter the womb and hence successful fertilization.

How Is It Removed

While the lifespan of the Nexplanon birth control implant is three to five years, you may need to take out the implant soonerfor example, if you are trying to get pregnant, or if you decide that the side effects dont outweigh the benefits of the implant.

Like its insertion, the birth control implant removal process is quick, with minimum pain or discomfort, and relatively straightforward. However, it will take a little bit more time to remove your implant than it did to have it inserted. To remove it, your healthcare provider will numb your upper arm and make a small incision at the site of the implant. Then, using special tools, he or she will pull the small rod out of your arm and use steri-strips or sutures to close the incision site. At this point, you can have another implant put in immediately if you wish to continue using Nexplanon as your main method of birth control.

Once your contraceptive implant is out, you may experience soreness or bruising around the incision site. Make sure to follow the instructions that your healthcare provider gives you for washing and caring for the area to avoid infection or scarring. Youll have to skip heavy weights once again to make sure you dont disrupt the healing process.

After the implant is removed, youll be able to conceive immediately. If youre not trying to get pregnant, youll need to get another implant or use a different method of birth control.

When To See A Doctor

Women should speak to a doctor as soon as possible if they suspect that they are pregnant or have had a positive result on a pregnancy test while on birth control.

Conversely, if a woman misses a period and gets a negative pregnancy test result, she should also seek medical advice unless she is taking a form of birth control that prevents regular periods.

Although they are rare, false negatives are possible. There may be other underlying conditions causing missed periods or other pregnancy symptoms.

How Does It Feel To Get The Birth Control Implant Removed

Nexplanon removal only takes a few minutes, but the process is a little longer than getting it put in.

Just like with the insertion, a doctor or nurse gives you a shot to numb a small area of your arm. Then they make a small cut and remove the implant. You usually just feel a little pinch or stinging when you get the numbing shot. After that, it shouldnt hurt when they make the incision or take the implant out.

If you want to continue using Nexplanon, you can get another implant put in during the removal of your old one.

Can You Get Pregnant From Blowing Someone

Trying To Get Pregnant After Nexplanon Removal

If youre wondering if you can get pregnant after blowing someone, the short answer is no. The risk of getting pregnant is low, especially when theres no unprotected ejaculation into the vagina. The longer the distance between the penis and the vagina, and the more semen is dried, the less likely it is to lead to a pregnancy. Health24 recommends seeking medical advice if you have any questions. The information presented herein is for informational purposes only.

In order for sperm to fertilize an egg, they must travel several centimeters up the cervical canal, which is about a centimeter higher than the vagina. Therefore, you are unlikely to get pregnant from blowing someone, even if you pre-ejaculate on the vaginal opening or labia. This is because sperm doesnt swim this far they would just die on the outside of the body.

How Long Does The Implant Last And Can You Get Pregnant On An Expired Nexplanon / Implanon

Nexplanon can be used for three years, at which point it should be replaced to maintain its effectiveness. We recommend contacting your GP or sexual health clinic to discuss the replacement of your contraceptive implant prior to the date it is due to be replaced .

The implant definitely wont stop working early and there isnt anything that makes Nexplanon less effective. There is even some evidence to say the implant remains effective up until four years, but a discussion with your doctor or nurse will help you work out what is best for you. There are no symptoms of it running out any longer and the implant is simply out of date and will no longer protect you from unwanted pregnancy.

If I Have The Contraceptive Implant How Would I Know If I Was Pregnant

A missed period isnt a good indicator of pregnancy when you are using the contraceptive implant. This is because the implant often makes periods lighter or more irregular, and some people find that their periods stop completely while they have the implant. However, some find the opposite can occur, and they may have heavier, longer periods.

However, on the very rare chance that you become pregnant while using the contraceptive implant, there are a number of signs you could look for. These may include a change in the pattern of your periods , tender breasts, tiredness, or nausea. The easiest and safest way to check if you are concerned you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test.

If you do become pregnant while using the implant, it is important to see your doctor as soon as you can. Equally, if you develop stomach pain, you must see your doctor urgently to rule out any chance of an ectopic pregnancy.

There is good evidence to show that implants do not cause birth defects and will not cause harm to a developing pregnancy.8 However, in this situation, removing the implant as soon as possible is recommended.9
