What If My Cycle Is Irregular
It can be more difficult to get pregnant if you have irregular periods because you may not ovulate regularly.
There are many possible causes of irregular periods, which may affect your fertility. For example:
Having irregular periods does not mean you wont get pregnant and there are things you can do to boost your chances of success.
See your GP if your periods have stopped, youre missing monthly periods or you have irregular periods and are struggling to get pregnant.
How Can You Know If Youre Not Ovulating
Some people do not ovulate regularly, or at all. One in 10 people with ovaries experience anovulation, periods in which an egg is never released during their menstrual cycle, at some point during their childbearing years. If youre not ovulating, no amount of sex will get you pregnant.
Irregular periods or completely absent periods are the number one sign that ovulation may not be occurring, or may be occurring infrequently. Not seeing fertile mucus is another potential sign of anovulation. It is possible to have regular periods and not be ovulating, but this is uncommon.
Bloating Before A Period Is A Common Pms Symptom
The week before your period, you may experience breast tenderness and swelling.
Symptoms such as bloating, swollen arms and legs, and bags under the eyes can also appear. Swelling and bloating are common symptoms of premenstrual syndrome that are caused by water retention.
Whether other symptoms of PMS are present or not, water retention is common during this time.

When Is Your Fertile Window
what days can you get pregnant?

Can You Be Fertile On Your Period
While its extremely unlikely, the simple answer is yes. Women are not able to conceive whilst on their period, but sperm survives within the female reproductive system for up to five days. This means that a tiny fraction of women do have a small chance of becoming pregnant from unprotected sex during their period. It all depends on the length of your menstrual cycle simple, right?
Lets take an example, say you have a menstrual cycle shorter than 28 days. You have sex towards the end of your six-day-long period and ovulate shortly after, then there is a chance that some of the sperm survive and you could get pregnant. So while getting pregnant is unlikely, its technically possible if you dont know your fertile window.

Ive Been Using Contraception Will This Affect My Cycle
This depends on what type of contraception youve been using. If youve been taking the pill, your period may be irregular when you first come off it, so try to give yourself up to 3 months for your natural menstrual cycle to get back to its normal routine.
The first period after stopping the pill is known as a withdrawal bleed. The next one after this is your first natural period.
The contraceptive injection can also affect your cycle. Your periods may change and become irregular, heavier, shorter, lighter or stop altogether. This can carry on for some months after you stop the injections.
If you use the contraceptive implant your fertility will return to normal as soon as it is taken out.
When Is The Best Time To Have Baby
The best time to have sex to conceive can be hard to pinpoint exactly. So, your best bet is to have sex on the days around and during what you believe is your fertile window, as theres no completely accurate method to to use at home to detect precisely just before you are about to ovulate. Its possible for an ovulation predictor kit, body temperature charts, and cervical mucus patterns to all indicate a slightly different ovulation day.
In a study of people with regular, 28-day cycles, ovulation occurred most commonly on day 15 after the start of the last menstrual period , followed by day 16 LMP and day 14 LMP . Researchers found a 10-day spread of observed ovulation days even among a group of people with clockwork cycles, and a similar variation for people whose cycles were a little longer or shorter.
Another group of researchers set out to pinpoint the most commonly fertile day in the menstrual cycle across the general populationincluding those with irregular cyclesusing menstrual period surveys and ultrasound measurements rather than ovulation signs. They found a sharp rise in the probability a person will conceive beginning at day 7 LMP, reaching a maximum probability of conception of 13% at day 15 LMP. By day 25 LMP, the statistical probability of conception is zero, according to the data.

There are longer and shorter cycles with all sorts of factors like age, stress levels, and just plain genetic makeup that pop in to mess up the predictability of your fertility window all things you need to try your best to get in touch with if your plan is to conceive.

Can I Get Pregnant At Any Time During My Cycle
Yes, but its unlikely youll get pregnant just before or just after your period. You are most fertile when you ovulate, so this is when youre most likely to get pregnant. When You Had Sex
Another factor that influences your likelihood of getting pregnant during your period is when you have sex. Though not entirely impossible, you are much less likely to conceive if you have sex on day 1 or 2 of your period compared to days 6 or 7. This is because you will be closer to ovulation towards the end of your period.
However, its important to note that this logic does not apply if your cycles are irregular. This is because ovulation may come extremely early during your cycle making it difficult to predict where it will occur relative to your period.
How Soon Can I Get Pregnant After Coming Off The Pill

Can You Get Pregnant Right Before Your Period De Lunes Founder Explains
Courtney Mayszak, RDN, LDN, Co-founder of De Lune | September 5, 2020
Can you get pregnant right before your period? This is a frequently-Googled period question, the answer to which hinges on hope or relief depending on whether or not youre aiming to conceive.
So lets break it down. But first lets clarify some words:
- Getting pregnant = sperm + egg. Pregnancy starts when your egg fuses with a sperm cella process called fertilization. Its not technically considered a pregnancy until the fertilized egg nestles into the lining of the uterus and starts growinga process called implantation.
- Right before = sometime during your luteal phasethe 10 to 16 days between ovulation and your period, when PMS happens.
- Your period = the shedding of your uterine lining, indicating that no fertilized egg has cozied into it, and you arent pregnant.

This woman’s question is clear and succinct with a headline of “can I get pregnant if I had unprotected sex two days before my period comes?” and a simple comment of “please let me know what you think”, we know exactly what kind of information she’s after. The general consensus among participating SteadyHealth posters seems to be that this is possible, but extremely unlikely. Let’s examine that in more detail.
Exceptions: When You Can Get Pregnant Right Before Your Period
1.If what you think is a period isnt actually a period. Its possible to mistake your period for ovulation bleeding, especially if it comes with period-like symptoms. Should you mistake an ovulation bleed for a period, right before your period overlaps with your fertile window, and the likelihood of getting pregnant is quite high.
2.If you have a long fertile window. Ovulation typically occurs around day 14 of a 28-day menstrual cycle, but everyones cycle is different. One study found that most women reach their fertile window earlier and others much later than day 14.
Its rare, but you may have a uniquely long, or uniquely late-arriving fertile window. This can occur naturally, or be a result of stress, medications, thyroid disorders, or other conditions. No matter when it occurs, ovulation always presents the possibility of getting pregnant, even if very late in your cycle.
Just note that after fertilization, the egg still needs to be implanted into the uterine wall. That can take a week or more. If you fertilize an egg during a fertile window that is very close to your period, the odds of a failed implantation increase because the uterine lining is shed during your period, potentially shedding the fertilized egg along with it.

Can You Get Pregnant Right Before Or After Your Period
The fertile window usually occurs in the middle of a persons cycle. This window lasts a few days before ovulation and ends a day after ovulation. People are most likely to become pregnant during this time.
Due to this, people are less likely to get pregnant in the days leading up to their period. This is especially true if their periods are regular and they have a 28-day menstrual cycle.
It is, however, possible for a person to get pregnant immediately after their period. This is because sperm can still fertilize eggs for up to 7 days after sexual intercourse.
If a person with a short cycle has sexual intercourse right after their period and ovulates early, they may ovulate quickly enough for the egg to connect with sperm cells.
Can You Get Pregnant Four Days Before Your Period
You are at your most fertile the day you ovulate and the day before. However, because sperm can survive for up to five days, having sex on the days leading up to ovulation can increase your chances of getting pregnant. However, these very early symptoms are rare and are very similar to period-related symptoms.
Can You Get Pregnant Before Your Period Starts
Can I get pregnant right before my period? We hear you ask. Well
Because our bodies love a gray area, the short answer is: possible, but highly unlikely.
When you look at all the people on the planet, its pretty hard to imagine that conception can actually only take place in a tiny little monthly window that typically only lasts about 6 days.
After all, there are mamas and pregnant people on Peanut who have stories like I got pregnant a week before my period or I got pregnant 1 day before my period.
But, typically speaking, most people get pregnant in the lead up to, during, and after ovulation when your hormones get an egg to release from your ovary.
To get pregnant, that egg needs to hook up with some sperm and fast.
As in 12-24 hours after ovulation kind of fast.
Ovulation usually happens at about exactly the opposite corner of the month to your period.
Thats why, typically at least, the likelihood of pregnancy right before your period is not great.
Why Does It Hurt Before I Get My Period
The cause is usually having too many prostaglandins, which are chemicals that your uterus makes. These chemicals make the muscles of your uterus tighten and relax, and this causes the cramps. The pain can start a day or two before your period. It normally lasts for a few days, though in some women it can last longer.
Can I Get Pregnant 3 Days After My Period Has Finished
When is the women more fertile before period or after period?
Your menstrual cycle will start on the first day of your period and continue to the first day of the next period. When your ovaries release an egg, at the time of ovulation, you will be most fertile. This is usually 12 to 14 days before the start of the next period. You are more likely to get pregnant during this time.
Are you more fertile before or after your period?
Youre most fertile at the time of ovulation , which usually occurs 12 to 14 days before your next period starts. This is the time of the month when youre most likely to get pregnant. Its unlikely that youll get pregnant just after your period, although it can happen.
Does ovulation occur just before or just after your period?
Yes, there exists the possibility of ovulating right after period. The length of your menstrual cycle determines when the ovulation occurs. Your menstrual cycle lasts from the first day of your menstrual period until the first day of your next menstrual period. A normal menstrual cycle lasts about 28 days. However, some women have a shorter or a longer menstrual cycle.

Can You Get Pregnant On Your Period
Yes, but it’s unlikely. It’s possible to get pregnant during your period when:
- You have a very short menstrual cycle .
- You have long periods.
- You were bleeding around the time of ovulation and mistakenly thought it was a regular period. If you had unprotected sex at that time, you could conceive.
Here’s why you could get pregnant during your period:
Ovulation happens during the middle of your menstrual cycle anywhere between 7 and 19 days before your period starts. During ovulation, an egg reaches maturity in one of your two ovaries, the ovary releases the egg into your abdomen, and it gets sucked into the nearest fallopian tube, where it can survive for about 24 hours. Conception occurs when an egg and sperm meet in a fallopian tube.
A typical menstrual cycle is 28 days, which usually leaves a good few days between the end of your period and the start of ovulation. But some women have cycles as short as 22 days. If you have a short cycle or long periods, you could ovulate right after your period ends. And because sperm can survive in your reproductive tract for up to five days, if you have sex during your period, it’s possible that live sperm will be there when you ovulate, ready to fertilize the egg.
