Start by counting the recurring day of your last menstrual period

Stop counting recurring days when you reach the present time.

The number of recurring days you count is the number of weeks you are now.

Another method to calculate how many weeks pregnant you are is to:

Now divide the counted days by 7.

The answer will be how many weeks you are now.

How Do You Divide The Duration Of Pregnancy

The duration of pregnancy is divided into three stages or trimesters, depending on the development of the fetus. These trimesters, in turn, can be split into weeks:

First trimester: Weeks 1-12. Around week 5, the babys heart begins to beat.
Second trimester: Weeks 13-28. During week 15, the genitals have fully formed, so we can tell whether the baby is a boy or a girl. Between week 17 and 18, the baby will start to be able to hear, although they will not distinguish sound perfectly.

Third trimester: Weeks 29-40. In this final stage, the baby increases rapidly in size. By 29, your baby will begin to blink. They will be able to see light and shadow, and their pupils will dilate.

With each week of pregnancy, you can find out what is happening in your body. This will help you pass the time as you wait for your baby to arrive.

As you approach week 38, the baby will begin to get into position for birth: the cephalic presentation. Most babies get into this position on their own, with the head between the bones of the pelvis. Now, the baby is ready to be born at any moment.

How Do I Calculate My Due Date If I Had Ivf

If you used embryo cryopreservation and in vitro fertilization to get pregnant, you can use your IVF transfer date to calculate your due date. If your provider transferred the embryos five days after they retrieved your eggs, count ahead 261 days from the transfer date.

If your provider transferred the embryos three days after egg retrieval, count ahead 263 days to determine your due date. On your transfer day, your provider will calculate your due date and share this information with you.

What Should I Do Next

If you dont already have a midwife, you may be able to self-refer to your local maternity unit directly for your antenatal care. Visit your local hospitals website to find out more.

Speak to your GP if you cant self-refer or if you think your pregnancy may be high-risk. For example, if you have a long-term condition, had complications in a previous pregnancy or experienced a late miscarriage or stillbirth. Your GP will tell the midwifery team you are pregnant.

You will be given a date for your first appointment with a midwife. This should happen before you are 10 weeks pregnant.

The World Health Organization defines a normal pregnancy term to last between 37 and 42 weeks. During a person’s first OB-GYN visit, the doctor will usually provide an estimated date at which the child will be born, or due date. While the due date can be estimated, the actual length of pregnancy depends on various factors, including age, length of previous pregnancies, and weight of the mother at birth.1 However, there are still more factors affecting natural variation in pregnancy terms that are not well understood. Studies have shown that fewer than 4% of births occur on the exact due date, 60% occur within a week of the due date, and almost 90% occur within two weeks of the due date.2 As such, while it is possible to be fairly confident that a person’s child will be born within about two weeks of the due date, it is currently not possible to predict the exact day of birth with certainty.
