What Do High Hcg Levels Mean For A Pregnancy
If your hCG levels are above the normal range, this could indicate any of the following.
Twins or multiples
If you are carrying twins or multiples, it is normal to have hCG levels that are higher than the normal range. While there is no specific chart or figure for how high hCG levels can reach when carrying twins, some doctors suggest that it can be up to 30-50% higher than a normal pregnancy.
Molar pregnancy
Molar pregnancies occur when there is an abnormal growth of tissue in the uterus due to a genetic error. In a complete molar pregnancy, the emerging placenta grows and produces hCG, however there is no embryo. In a partial molar pregnancy, an embryo does exist however it has severe birth defects.
Molar pregnancies should be treated immediately by a doctor. In addition to elevated hCG levels, a molar pregnancy may also be accompanied by bright red or brown vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, and severe nausea.
Down syndrome
Higher than normal hCG levels can also indicate that your pregnancy may be at risk of Downs syndrome. However, your doctor will need to conduct further blood testing and ultrasounds throughout your pregnancy to determine how high this risk level is.

How Can You Determine How Far Along You Are
Carrie Bruno
This is a question that runs through a lot of womens minds- especially after missing a menstrual period & having a positive at home pregnancy test. It is common to want to know how far along you are, as soon as you find this out.
How can you calculate this?
The simplest way to figure this out is by keeping track of your menstrual period and knowing the date of when your last menstrual period started. The accuracy of this method depends on how accurately you keep track of this. If your cycle is quite regular, for example every 28 days you have your menstrual period, than this method will work to calculate how far along you are.
If you are someone with an irregular cycle, this is not as easy to calculate, using this method. To figure out the length of your cycle, you would count the days from the start of one menstrual period to the start of the next. Cycles vary from woman to woman. They can be anywhere from 21-35 days. They can also be regular and irregular. As I mentioned, you want to only use this method if your cycle is quite regular, no matter the length of it.
Once you have determined whether or not your cycle is regular and if you have accurately been keeping track of your menstrual period, you can count the weeks to find out how far along you are in your pregnancy. You would go back to the first day of your last menstrual period on a calendar and than from there, count the weeks up to the current date.

Few things can compare to the rush and excitement of when you take a pregnancy test and read out the positive result! Once youâve processed the news that youâre going to be a mom, your thoughts will naturally turn to planning and one of your first questions will no doubt be: when is my due date? Use these three simple steps to find out how far along you are in your pregnancy:
Keep in mind every pregnancy is unique and the result will be an estimation rather than a fixed date.
Average Length Of Pregnancy
While 40 weeks is the average, its not unusual to deliver your baby earlier or later. In the past, 37 weeks was considered to be a full-term pregnancy. This definition carried implications on as two when it would be safe to induce labor or schedule a cesarean section.
However, we now know that being born at 37 weeks can increase health risks. Its not nearly as risky as being born before 37 weeks, but its not ideal either.
In response, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has created new definitions to describe the timing of labor:

How Far Along Am I By Ivf

With assisted fertility like IVF, conception occurs outside the womans body. That means the day the embryo is inserted into the uterus is known as implantation day.
When a woman is having IVF treatment, the date of conception is obviously known, and many tests are done to make sure implantation occurs at the optimal time of the womans cycle.
Although IVF isnt a natural method to conceive, the natural conception process should be mirrored as much as possible.
After conceiving via IVF, you should count your pregnancy weeks in the same way as youd count them from conception date.

What To Do During The Second Trimester
- Make sure you are not skipping out on your prenatal vitamins and folic acid!
- Dont skimp on the fiber because you really will need it to keep things moving in there, and Im not talking about the baby!
- Exercise and drinking lots of water is also important. Women often retain a lot of water during pregnancy as a result of not drinking enough water. Sounds weird, but thats how the body works! If youre not drinking enough water, the body will retain it because it needs it. You will still gain water weight, but keeping yourself hydrated can really help with not getting so puffy around the edges.
- If you look in the mirror, you may notice that your breasts have gotten larger. They are growing to prepare to feed your baby. Get comfortable with a breathable top!
- Learn about how to take care of a newborn. It’s best to start early and be prepared rather than procrastinate and fumble around with your child once they’re here!
Determining If Labor Is Premature
Babies who are born too early are at risk for numerous health problems. There are steps we can take to slow or halt preterm labor. With that said, there are also risks to the medications used to stop preterm labor, both to the mother and the baby.
You and your doctor have to decide together when the risks of allowing labor to continue to outweigh the risks of intervention. This is partially determined by knowing which week of pregnancy you are in.
There are also risks to the baby and mother if a pregnancy goes on for too long. Post-term pregnancy is when birth does not occur by week 42 . If this happens, your midwife or doctor may decide to induce labor.

Calculating Due Date: How To Tell How Far Along You Are
The answer to the question how far along am I? isnt just to satisfy a mom-to-bes curiosity. While getting an accurate due date is tough, its still crucial for your doctor to provide an educated guess. Thats because its still one of the single most important pieces your pregnancy, says G. Thomas Ruiz, MD, ob-gyn lead at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California.
A large part of your prenatal care depends on that due date, he explains. Knowing how far along you are can help you and your healthcare team track fetal development, mark pregnancy milestones and make decisions about prenatal testing. Having an idea of how long baby has been developing in your belly gives your doctor insight into, for instance, whether labor should be stopped because its premature or whether it should be induced because youre well past your due date, Ruiz says. With this in mind, here are a few at-home and in-office ways to learn how far along you are and what your official due date is.

Can I Plan My Due Date
Whether you’re trying to avoid being very pregnant in the middle of summer or are a teacher who wants to maximize time off with your little one, you can try to time when you conceive in order to “plan” your due date. But even if you’re one of the lucky ones who’s able to get pregnant when she really wants to, just remember that you probably won’t be able to map out exactly when you’ll give birth to the day .
Still, you can try our Ovulation Calculator, which uses the date of your last menstrual period and your typical cycle length to discover the days you’re most likely to be fertile and increase your chances of conceiving.
Do Hcg Levels Change With Twins
If you are carrying twins or multiples, your hCG levels will also increase rapidly during the first few weeks of pregnancy and peak around week 10 just like in a singleton pregnancy. However, there is a chance that your overall hCG levels will be up to 50% higher than what is considered the normal range for a single pregnancy.
Bear in mind though that this is not the case for every pregnancy with twins or multiples. You can still have a successful multiple pregnancy even if your hCG levels measure within the normal range.
