When You Must Not Use It
Do not use Implanon NXT if you have any of the conditions listed below. If any of these apply to you, tell your doctor BEFORE Implanon NXT is inserted. Your doctor can tell you whether Implanon NXT is suitable for you or not and may advise you to use a non-hormonal method of birth control.
- If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant
- If you have a thrombosis. Thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot in a blood vessel .
- If you have or have had jaundice , or severe liver disease, or a liver tumour.
- If you have cancer or may have cancer of the breast or of the genital organs.
- If you have any unexplained vaginal bleeding.

If any of these conditions appear for the first time while using Implanon NXT, tell your doctor immediately.
Do not use Implanon NXT if the expiry date printed on the pack has passed.
Do not use Implanon NXT if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering.
Where Can I Get A Contraceptive Implant Fitted Or Removed
You can get the contraceptive implant for free, even if you’re under 16, from:
- contraception clinics
- sexual health or genitourinary medicine clinics
- GP surgeries
- some young people’s services
Some GPs or practice nurses are able to fit and remove implants, so you’ll need to check at your GP surgery.

Carcinoma Of The Breast And Reproductive Organs
Women who currently have or have had breast cancer should not use hormonal contraception because breast cancer may be hormonally sensitive . Some studies suggest that the use of combination hormonal contraceptives might increase the incidence of breast cancer however, other studies have not confirmed such findings.
Some studies suggest that the use of combination hormonal contraceptives is associated with an increase in the risk of cervical cancer or intraepithelial neoplasia. However, there is controversy about the extent to which these findings are due to differences in sexual behavior and other factors.
Women with a family history of breast cancer or who develop breast nodules should be carefully monitored.

Changes To Your Period
During the first 3-6 months after insertion of your Kyleena IUD, you may have a higher chance of experiencing bleeding and spotting. Your period may become irregular, and/or your periods may be heavier or longer than usual.
Although breakthrough bleeding and spotting will most likely decrease within the first three months after insertion, your periods may continue to be irregular.
