Women Share How Long It Took Before They Realized They Were Pregnant

Pregnancy Tips : How to Figure Out How Pregnant You Are

Recent legislation has sought to ban abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat is detectable. For most women, that’s as early as five or six weeks into pregnancyand only one or two weeks after a missed period. That means many of these women might not even realize they’re pregnant before it’s already too late for them to get an abortion.

Still, these so-called “heartbeat bills” have raised a bunch of questions. When do most women figure out they’re pregnant? Can women really not know they’r pregnant until after the 6-week mark? Why are some women able to tell right away, while others don’t realize until much later? So we decided to talk to seven women about how and when they realized they were pregnant in an attempt to answer some of these questions.

The fact of the matter is: Pregnancy is totally different for each woman who experiences itand there’s nothing wrong with that. While one woman might discover she’s pregnant right away, some other woman may take weeks or months to do the same. That doesn’t mean either woman is “wrong” or “weird”it just means they’re experiencing pregnancy differently.

“I realized I was pregnant very quickly for both kidsthree or four days before my approximate period. We were trying to get pregnant, so I used tools to track my period and increase my likelihood of pregnancy. I used an app that would show me when my next period was and when to check, and I used pregnancy tests both times.”

What To Expect During Your Eighth Month Of Pregnancy

  • Urinary Frequency: Also kicking into high gear if it hasnt yet is urinary frequency. The baby needs to expand up and down and wherever it can to make itself fit, so this will include squishing your bladder and pushing up into your sternum. At times and in certain positions, you might find it a little hard to breathe! Oh, the joys of pregnancy!
  • Braxton-Hicks Contractions: If you havent felt the practice contractions by now, you probably will soon. Dont be alarmed though, they are just Braxton-Hicks contractions. Although they might feel a little crampy, its typically a painless tensing of the uterine muscles that is your body preparing your uterus for the real thing. They can sometimes begin in the second trimester, but they more frequently show up in the third semester.
  • Hemorrhoids: Theyre more likely due to the combination of your expanding uterus, constipation, and an increase in a hormone called progesterone.

How Can I Tell If My Cat Is Pregnant

The signs of a pregnant cat can be easily seen in their nipples, which look more reddened and larger. If the cat is pregnant, it means that the pregnancy has been for 15-18 days.

Reddening and swelling of the nipple can be a sign that you are pregnant, but they could also be signs of other diseases. Here are some signs that cats may be pregnant:

  • An increase in the size and intensity of the abdominal muscles. The number of children born will affect the amount of swelling.
  • Morning sickness. This particular symptom can be experienced by certain cats during their pregnancy.
  • Cats tend to eat and sleep more when they are pregnant.
  • The cat will search for a place that is comfortable to give birth when he or she enters the delivery room.

How Far Along Can You Spay A Pregnant Cat?

When is it okay to spay a pregnant cat? Many owners think that this procedure isnt necessary.

However, there are a few reasons why its important to perform this surgery early. First of all, it can prevent complications later on. Secondly, early spaying prevents the female from becoming pregnant at an early age, which can lead to problems such as birth defects and the inability to breastfeed.

Another argument against spaying a pregnant cat is the fetal kittens. Many shelters allow their pregnant cats to give birth at any point up to the time of birth. But if youre sure your cat is already too far along, dont worry! You can still spay a pregnant cat.

This is an ethical decision, and you should discuss the procedure with your veterinarian before doing so.

If you dont know if your cat is pregnant, dont worry: spaying can be done at any point during the pregnancy. Some vets will even perform the procedure before you know it.

While its still best to schedule the procedure early, you can still schedule a consultation with a veterinarian to make sure its safe for your pet. Then, discuss your wishes and your cats preferences with your vet.

If your cat isnt pregnant, you can still spay her.

However, if you dont want the kittens to suffer, consider a late abortion. In these cases, youll save the kittens. You can also avoid the complications of a miscarriage with a spay.

Measuring The Size Of Your Uterus

When you measure your uterus in pregnancy, youre measuring your fundal height, or the distance from the pubic bone to the highest point on your belly. Fundal height measurements are most useful after 20 weeks gestation, at which point providers expect the height of your uterus to match the number of weeks youve been pregnant, Mayo Clinic noted. So if youre been pregnant 22 weeks, you should have a fundal height measurement of 22 centimeters. Neat, huh?

Unfortunately, a host of factors can render fundal measurements less accurate. Certified midwife Mallorie Resendez Bassetti says measuring belly size is a common method for estimating due dates, but itâs not very accurate. âEven from the beginning, a doctor or midwife can feel the uterus and estimate how many months along a woman is, but this is not very accurate,â she says. âMeasurements could be off if the baby is growing too small, if there is a fibroid in the uterus, or if there are twins.â

Mayo Clinic was careful to note that fundal measurements are generally taken to reassure women and their providers that baby is growing on schedule, and that its not a particularly accurate method of dating a pregnancy.

How Is My Due Date Determined

Normally, your due date is 280 days from the first day of your last period. However, if your periods are not regular or are not 28 days apart, your due date may be different from the 280-day rule. Your health care provider may order an ultrasound to more accurately determine your due date.

If you are certain of your conception date , please tell your health care provider. This information can be helpful in determining your estimated date of delivery .

A full-term pregnancy ranges from 37 weeks to 40 weeks and 6 days, so your actual date of delivery can be different from your estimated date of delivery, which is sometimes called estimated date of confinement, or EDC. A very small number of babies are actually born on their due dates. Typically, only 5% percent of women deliver on their due date.

Is it okay to lay on my stomach if I’m only 7 weeks pregnant?

The cat will begin nesting about two weeks before the birth. This is to protect their babies from predators, other animals and alien humans. Mother cats have the instinct to protect their cubs from harm.

Cats will often choose unsuitable places. We recommend that you provide cardboard with newspaper, covered with towel or cloth, so they can clean it.

To make your cat more comfortable, you can provide a towel or pillow. To make things easier for cats, you can place food and sandboxes near your cat.

A Personal Note: What My Pregnancy Symptoms Were Like

Some of these pregnancy symptoms are hard to quantify, especially when it’s something like “feeling different.” But, you may well feel different somehow even though you can’t explain how you feel different.

In my first pregnancy, the earliest signs for me were the enlarged nipples and breasts and breast tenderness as well as feeling dizzy, sick and extremely tired. And yesâI did feel different!

During my second pregnancy, the most noticeable early symptoms were a metallic taste in my mouth, an aversion to drinking tea and a heightened sense of smell. This last symptom got worse and worse throughout my pregnancy and it became difficult to manage all of the smells that made me either feel sick or actually be sick. Smells I couldn’t handle were anything soapy such as body wash and deodorant, perfume, aftershave and alcohol. There were a lot more, but these were the main ones.

For my third pregnancy, me, my husband and our daughter were away traveling around Europe in our motorhome. We’d stopped to work on a farm for a few weeks, when I started to feel incredibly tired.

I couldn’t work out why I felt that way after a good night’s sleep and I had no other symptoms of illness, so I tried drinking extra coffee to keep me awake . Then a few days later I started feeling really unwell to the point I spent around four days laying down resting, but no real symptoms as suchâI might describe them like the flu without the sore throat and cough.

Can You Be Pregnant And Not Know It

A New Home Pregnancy Test Reads How Far Along You Are

Youâve probably heard a story about it at least once: a woman who didnât know they were pregnant until they went into labor. Your first thought? How is it possible to not know youâre carrying a baby?Itâs not out of the question, says Michael Cackovic, MD, an OB/GYN at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. âThere are women who donât have routine sex, donât have routine periods, and donât regularly see a doctor,â he says. Under those circumstances, itâs possible you could not realize youâre pregnant.

Other women have mental health problems that keep them from recognizing or accepting that theyâre going to have a baby.

A few studies have estimated that one in 400 or 500 women are 20 weeks, or about 5 months, into their pregnancy before they realize they are pregnant.

One in 2,500 women make it all the way to labor before they understand theyâre going to have a baby. Thatâs about three times more common than a womanâs chance of having triplets.
