You can also simply try to determine the last time you had sexual intercourse, but this method isnt totally accurate either. Conception is a process and takes time, and a mans sperm can actually stay alive inside your body for up to a week after sex. All of these factors can make it hard to know when exactly you conceived.

The most common way to calculate your pregnancy due date is by counting 40 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period . And that’s how most healthcare providers do it.
If your menstrual cycle length is the average length , your menstrual cycle probably started about two weeks before you conceived. This explains why pregnancies are said to last 40 weeks instead of 38 weeks.
This method doesn’t take into account how long your menstrual cycle actually is or when you think you might have conceived. But generally speaking, women typically ovulate about two weeks after their menstrual cycle starts. And women are more likely to know when their last period started than the day they ovulated.
Will I Get A More Accurate Due Date Later In The Pregnancy
You will have your first appointment with the midwife, the ‘booking appointment’, by 10 weeks. At that appointment, you will be offered an ultrasound scan this is often called the dating scan.

So, what day did I conceive? There are two ways to use our conception calendar calculator.
The first way is to provide the birth due date. When you visit the doctor, they will most likely perform an ultrasound. Although the doctor can see the baby from the 5-6th week of pregnancy, the best time to go for the first sonography is between weeks 8 and 12.

Average Length Of Pregnancy
While 40 weeks is the average, its not unusual to deliver your baby earlier or later. In the past, 37 weeks was considered to be a full-term pregnancy. This definition impacted when it was considered safe to induce labor or schedule a cesarean section.
However, we now know that being born at 37 weeks can increase health risks. Its not nearly as risky as being born before 37 weeks, but it’s not ideal. Research shows its typically better for a baby to stay in the uterus a few weeks longer to at least 39 weeks, if possible.
