What Days Out Of The Month Can I Get Pregnant

Cut Back On Strenuous Workouts

Can I get pregnant after having my period?

Being physically active most days of the week can help a woman’s body prepare for the demands of pregnancy and labor, and has been associated with a reduced risk of fertility problems, scientists reported in the March 2020 issue of the journal Human Reproduction. But getting too much exercise or doing frequent strenuous workouts could interfere with ovulation, Live Science reported.

Doctors see a lot of menstrual disturbances in women who exercise heavily, and a lot of times these women need to cut back on their workouts if they want to become pregnant, Pavone told Live Science.

What About Period Sex

Weve heard period sex hailed as the ultimate time for unprotected love making. Though baby making odds are slim, its not 100 percent risk-free.

During the 4 to 8 days of bleeding, youre shedding the unfertilized egg from your previous cycle. This means there isnt a new egg ready for baby making, but it doesnt mean your partners sperm wont hang out until the new egg makes its debut.

Check Your Cervical Mucus

The same hormones that control your menstrual cycle also affect the mucus that your cervix makes. Just before and during ovulation, the amount, color, and texture of it change to make it easier for you to get pregnant.

As your ovaries prepare to release an egg, your cervix makes more mucus. A few days before ovulation, it may be sticky and cloudy or whitish. Then, right before you ovulate, the mucus gets slippery, like egg whites. It may stretch across your fingers if you spread them apart. This stage usually lasts 3 or 4 days, which is when you’re most likely to get pregnant.

To check your cervical mucus:

  • Use your fingers or a tissue to check the opening of your vagina for mucus a few times a day. Make sure your hands are clean before you start. Write down whether it’s cloudy and sticky or clear and slippery.
  • Chart your cervical mucus changes and your basal body temperature to get a clear picture of where you are in your cycle.

Keep in mind that other things, like breastfeeding, can change your mucus. Using douches or other hygiene products can also affect it. Gynecologists usually don’t recommend these products.

When Is The Best Time To Have Sex To Get Pregnant

When you’re trying to get pregnant, a lot comes down to timing. After all, nature gives us a brief window each month to conceive. While it’s possible to get pregnant any day of the month , you’re much more likely to score a fertilized egg if you work with your body’s regular reproductive rhythm.

Wondering when is the best time to get pregnant? Here are the ways to know exactly when to spring into action for the greatest chances of conception success.

How Soon Before Or After A Period Can A Person Become Pregnant

Fertility increases sharply around 1214 days before menstruation, so unprotected sex is more likely to result in pregnancy during that time.

It is unlikely but possible that conception will occur in the 1 or 2 days following a period since sperm can survive for up to 7 days after sex.

For example, a couple may have sex the day after a period ends. If ovulation occurs on that day or within the next 6 days, pregnancy is possible.

People with shorter menstrual cycles are more likely to become pregnant in the days after a period ends because they ovulate earlier.

Your Cervical Mucus Has An Egg White

When is the last time you checked your underwear? Or, ahem, felt your down-there discharge? It may sound odd, but your cervical mucus can provide a tip-off to when sex will be most fruitful. You’re looking for discharge that feels like egg whites, which indicates your body’s in ovulation mode.

Once you start monitoring your CM all month, you’ll see a pattern: You’ll likely be dry for several days to a week after your period. Next, your CM may get sticky for a day or two. Then, on around day eight, it will amp up and turn creamy it could be white or pale yellow.

The next stage is the biggie: ovulation mucus. Your discharge will not only be plentiful but slippery and stretchy . This egg-white stage is a clue that you’re ovulating and you and your partner may want to skip dinner and a movie and get busy being intimate.

Incidentally, that CM texture is nature’s way of ensuring sperm make their way to the egg. Finally, after ovulation day, you may become drier down there.

You Have Been Feeling Dizzy

Blood pressure can gradually decrease in early pregnancy due to a combination of shifting hormones and the heart beating faster. This can leave you feeling faint and light-headed but dont worry, this is normal for the early stages of pregnancy. If you are regularly feeling dizzy and you are concerned, book a check-up with your doctor.

Truth: Ovulating Is Only One Element Of Getting Pregnant

Ovulation is essential to getting pregnantbut it takes more than just an egg to conceive. For example, the pathway to the egg must be clear. If the fallopian tubes are blocked, pregnancy cant occur. Also, you need sperm. Getting pregnant isnt only about the womans fertility.

Its also important to know that infertility doesnt always have obvious symptoms. Some fertility problems are not detectable without fertility testing. For example, its not possible to tell without lab testing if a mans semen has enough sperm cells to be fertile. There may be no obvious signs if a womans fallopian tubes are blocked. Ovulation is just one piece of the fertility puzzle.

Do I Have To Take The Test First Thing In The Morning

Can I get pregnant if I have sex a day before ovulation?

Not unless you are testing early. Otherwise your test should detect hCG any time of day if you are pregnant. However, if youre taking a pregnancy test before your missed period, its better to test first thing in the morning when concentrations of hCG are the highest.

You can also dilute the amount of hCG in your urine by drinking too much liquid, so try not to drink more than you usually would.

Why We Believe We Are Fertile Every Day

Did you know that in the United States only 17 states legally require health education classes to be medically accurate? Or that 29 states require abstinence be stressed?

To stress abstinence, some instructors will resort to fearful misinformation and thus, the myth that you can get pregnant any day is born. If we are taught false information during our formative years by people we perceive to be in a state of authority and trust, it can be much more difficult to accept the facts when they are presented to us later in life.

Listen, if you believe in abstinence, want to practice it, or feel it should be part of education then let me be clear that I’m not telling you otherwise. But what I am saying is that lying about physiology to make someone conform to an ideal is wrong.

People deserve medically accurate information about their body so they can make an informed decision.

But for people, it may not even be that she was misinformed. It can be as simple as just never being taught about your body.

When Am I Most Fertile

The most fertile time in your cycle are the days leading up to ovulation, before the egg is released from the ovary. After ovulation the egg survives for just 24 hours, while sperm retain fertilising capability for two to three days in the fallopian tubes. For this reason, we recommend that couples have sexual intercourse every two days throughout the females Fertile Window. This means that sperm are ready and waiting for the egg when the female ovulates. If you wait until after the female has ovulated before you have sex, you will most likely have missed the opportunity for conception that month.

Dealing With Low Sperm Counts

Can you get Pregnant right after your period?

If sperm counts are borderline normal or on the lower side, the general recommendation is to have sex every other day during the fertile window.

For example, if on Monday you get your first positive ovulation predictor test result, or you see fertile cervical mucus, you should have sex on Monday, skip Tuesday, and then again on Wednesday, skip Thursday, and once more on Friday. The day in between will help replenish the sperm supply, possibly increasing your chances of pregnancy.

You Have Swollen Or Tender Breasts

One of the most common signs of pregnancy is swollen or sore breasts. As the breasts prepare to produce milk for the baby, they will fill out and slightly change shape, which happens in the early stages of pregnancy. This soreness will normally last for a few months, but not all women will experience this. You are less likely to experience this if you were previously on birth control pills.

kaismama

That’s the strangest reason any thought they could be pregnant. When you stop the shot your body does weird things, that’s probably all it is. Did the doc give you the shot without doing a pregnancy test? The spotting and stuff should stop since you got the shot. Don’t forget you aren’t protected for the first 7 days, since you didn’t get it on time.

How Soon Are You Safe After Starting Birth Control Pills

If I’m having sex, how can I decrease my chances of getting pregnant?

Q: I was previously on birth control for almost 2 years and in the middle of April I stopped taking birth control pills. At the begining of June I started back on birth control again. Is it safe to have protected sex now with just the pill and without using another form of birth control, or do I have to wait an entire month after starting on birth control?

A: You will be protected from getting pregnant after 7 days of consistent use of birth control pills. Consistent use means that youre taking the pill every day at the same time . So basically, one week of birth control pills is enough to put the ovaries to sleep and keep you from getting pregnant.

However, having the phrases protected sex and without using another form of birth control in the same sentence makes us a little nervous. We can not stress enough that birth control pills only protect you from getting pregnant. They do NOT protect you from contracting sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, syphillis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HPV, etc. So please, please, please make sure that you are using other forms of barrier protection to protect yourself from contracting an STI.

Chances Of Getting Pregnant On Your Period

In essence, menstruation is the monthly shedding of the endometrium, the inner membrane of the uterus. Menstruation lasts between three and seven days for most women. By the third day, levels of progesterone and estrogen are rising and working to rebuild your endometrium. Around day four, follicle ripening begins to go on the uptick, meaning the ovaries will start preparing eggs for release.

Unless you’re a very early ovulator , there’s little chance your man’s sperm will actually have any eggs to work with during this phase of your cycle.

Your chances of conceiving: Almost zero. It’s not detrimental to have intercourse, though, and some women see menstruation as a breather from the rigors of frequent procreation-oriented sex.

How Far Along Am I

Knowing how far along you are in pregnancy is useful for both you and your healthcare provider. Your provider will use this information to check on your babyâs growth and development, to keep an eye on your health, and to schedule tests and exams.

The weeks of pregnancy are also grouped into three trimesters:

When Should You Take A Pregnancy Test

Wait until the first day of your missed period to take a home pregnancy test.

But if you can wait a little longer, taking the test one week after the date of your missed period may produce the most accurate result.

If you have an irregular cycle, wait one to two weeks after you had sex to take the test.

This will allow your body to develop high enough human chorionic gonadotropin levels to be detected by the test.

If you get a positive result, you might want to check again in a day or two since its possible to get a false positive. Then reach out to a medical provider to confirm the results.

Can You Get Pregnant On The Last Day Of Your Period

Difficulty Pinpointing Your Fertile Days

Timing your ovulation can become tricky since it may not happen on the same day or same time every month. The length of your cycle may change from month to month as well.

To start with, you will need to do some careful record keeping over a period of at least 3 to 6 months to have a more accurate idea of when you ovulate.

Even if you have charted your cycles for a few months and are fairly confident in the job of being your ovulation predictor, your ovulation may come earlier or later than predicted. This is because ovulation can be thrown off if you:

  • Are sick.
  • Have an imbalance in your hormones or irregular cycles.
  • Are taking certain medications .
  • Are having a disruption in your normal routines.
  • Are drinking alcohol or smoking.
  • Are have experienced a 10-15% increase or decrease from a normal level of body fat.
